AGT X Weekly Review: Live Show and Results -- Semi-Finals Part 1 - The Weeknd Appecatn Hr

It's that time!! Yes, it's time for the big acts to show what they're made of once again. It's the Semi-Finals on America's Got Talent!! And of course this is my Review, so here's what went down.
And in another definition of "sad", check out the eliminations section later on for my thoughts. They may not be pleasant.

Ira (and Mama Miriam) kicked off the festivities with his covered performance of (assumedly) “Copacabana”.
I liked the story behind the performance: Miriam telling Ira the story of how she and his dad met. during some show, which Ira then takes from there in song. How lovely.


They got buzzed by Howard, who gives some good sound criticism, which I do agree with.
While they do have a good comedy routine going on in the taped packages, the performances they do is more-or-less the same. The same concept, the same types of music, and the same old persona Ira goes through. I haven’t realized this, but if they go through the same things over and over, I’d get tired of them.
I thought this was another really fun performance, but if they go through the same stuff, I wouldn’t be a fan of theirs (...again).

Mountain Faith Band has been one my favorites this season at this point. They took any song, and give it a sublime bluegrass twist, which give them an amazing charm and class. Which is what happened when they performed-- to my surprise--and of all songs--The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face”.


I enjoyed this performance, but I did agree with the How’s and Heidi--to an extent.
“Face” has Abel reaching mostly high vocal ranges, something MFB couldn’t do. And if you’re a band on a stage like AGT’s, you have to step up your game and impress us even more. But, from all I heard of the genre, Bluegrass doesn’t have much high ranges. So I’ll give them a pass.

I did not expect Metal Mulisha Fitz Army to appear in the Live Shows. They are a great act, but I don’t them as one to appear in every act on this show. They have such breath-taking tricks and experience that I could see once, and then other people could see once. But hey, to each his own.


You know what, I was wrong. I enjoyed this a lot. The excitement, intensity and biking were awesome. These guys know how to do what they do and do it amazingly.

She performed “Earned It” by, you guessed it--The Weeknd.


It started off soft and delicate, but when the performance progressed, she took the volume up a notch, until she released the booming vocals we know about and love. She nailed it out of the park.

Derek Hughes returned. But not in a suit, but in pajamas. The reason for this, is because while he’s on the show, his kids have to go to bed. So to help enjoy their dad’s performance, and then hit the hay, Derek performs a story, in the twisted form of Humpty Dumpty.


Impressive. Even though I saw it coming.
This was great. The story was both sublime and humorous, Derek again showed amazing he can be as both a magician and a comedian.
I agreed with Mel in that the pace was slow and kinda almost put me to sleep (ironically or not, your choice). I also agreed with Howard in that Derek had range. He comes in, shows off something new, and still impresses and amazes us every time. That was perfect.
Dude is talented. Well done for him.

Drew Lynch is back.


And to my surprise...He was just great this time.
Although the laughing is a bit of a turn-off. Toes the line annoying and creepy.
I may have not been a fan of him and his content, mostly because his speech impediment was detrimental to his jokes, as I couldn’t understand them. Now, I can, and he uses his life problem to the jokes and they work to his advantage. I loved the subjects on bad phone connection and calling customer support. It was genius.

I don’t care if their only concept in their act is singing old R&B and Soul songs--they can pull it off!! And then some. The voices, the personalities, the techniques, the everything!! They HAVE IT!! These guys. Oh, Goodness, these guys.

Best Act of the Week, and one of the the Best Acts of the Season

Oz Pearlman took the stage for his next trick. This involve Howard, Heidi and beverages.
Heidi has to cover his eyes, while Howard is sipping drinks. Oz then has to guess the right drinks chosen by the judges.


For this one, I was a little bored of the presentation. But it was still great to watch.

Benton Blount was up next with this cover of “Fight Song” by Rachel Platt.


Although I don’t like song that much, I did like this cover a lot. It’s rough, rugged yet soft and tender. It sounds a bit like Chris Daughtry. And I guess that’s it. It’s only one compliment. Because he’s isn’t that great a singer to be one of the acts in the finals. He can using, but doesn’t have much of the excitement or wow factor to his voice or performances.
He’s talented, but it’s not enough for the whole thing.
Oh, and another thing: his being in the semi-finals has a good cause for celebration: Because he announced that he and his wife are having another baby! Congrats to the happy family for the wonderful addition to their family.

And now, one of the most mind-blowingly eclectic and electric acts of recent memory, SIRO-A.


This was a much better performance. It was slowed down and more simple, so they did so great this way. Plus, I love the song “Summer” by Calvin Harris, but thanks to them, I loved the instrumental even more, and this added to the set even more. There weren’t many colors, stripping down to sensibility, and it helped amazingly. I think that’s what the problem lied in their last performance. There was too much to go around, and too much
Siro-A is one of the absolute best acts this season, and their talent is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Consistently blows me away and promises me a great time. And I got one.

And finally, rounding out Round 1 of the Semi-Finals, one of the most cutest and talented young singers in AGT history, Arielle Baril.
She sang the aria "Nessun Dorma". She did great, but to me, it wasn’t her best performance.

And now, that the contestants have once again put their talents to the test, it’s time for America to test its collective minds in choosing the best acts to go through to the Finals. It's time for eliminations.

-I felt sad that Mountain Faith Band didn’t go through, but I didn’t have much emotion for Metal Mulisha Fitz Army.
OTHO, Derek Hughes was a great choice to go through. He’s funny as a comedian and fantastic as a magician. Good for him.
-Shame that Arielle Baril didn’t advance. Such a talented young lady.
Good that Ira didn’t go through. I enjoyed his act, but it wasn’t one that could have a Vegas show around it. Also, it would've gotten stale had it continued in the way it did.
For Oz Pearlman -- Meh. He’s a great mentalist, though.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!
Why did Drew Lynch advance!? And most importantly: Why did SIRO-A NOT?!?!
Putting them together proves my point. Sure, he was funny (to me) the last night, and he is an inspiration to people with speech impediments, but SIRO was MILES better than he was. The detriment was his laughing which was annoying to me. I think he could’ve had better odds going home than advancing.
It was a super shock to me that America chose Lynch over SIRO-A--or in a different way, chose him more than them. I’m sorry (not), but America got it wrong on this choice.

Are you kidding me?!?! Benton Blount over Samantha Johnson?!?
He’s a good singer, but he’s nothing compared to Samantha, who has one of the best voices on AGT I’ve ever heard. This was another shocking elimination.
Fortunately, there was a good thing coming out of this--CraigLewis Band is Advancing!!!
Thank God, because they deserved to move forward.

Well, this was a shocking week for eliminations, but I wouldn't say I'm surprised. I loved some of these acts, but others have either stepped their game up or are super popular (or both). So, if anything, it was interesting to see my faves go home while those I like less are going through. Oh well, to each his own.

Suit Up! with Nick:
This week was something like between Heaven and Heck with Nick's wardrobe.
On Tuesday, he stepped into the rafters in a black 3-piece with a striking Red tie to complete. Just perfectly devilish.
But on Wednesday, he switched it up and brightened everyone's night (even brighter than the stage) with a White blazer and matching shirt and fedora. Now, that's what I call "Heaven losing an angel". Seriously, nice one, Mr. Cannon.

Next week, the Semi-Finals end with the last group of 11 acts vying for the last five spots in the Finals.
I'm fearful of who it will be. I'm still furious that acts like SIRO-A, Samantha Johnson and Mountain Faith Band aren't advancing, but yeah, things change.

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 4-That Was...The End (Darn)

Hello, everyone.
Welcome back to my Review of the Judge Cuts on America’s Got Talent X. And wouldn’t you know it, we’ve reached the end. During the last four weeks, we’ve reached all we’ve could to watch some of the best acts so far try again to potentially reach the Live Shows and vie for America's hearts, votes, and possibly wallets. It's the final week, so they have to end it with a bang. So the best of the best are spotlighted for the 7 spots to the Live Shows. But that not the only thing.



For this, the final week, the judges are joined by the most memorable and beloved judge. He’s been a part of AGT for the first 7 seasons, and has really left his mark ever since. He’s made controversial remarks and rulings, but his presence has been felt by fans the nation over.
It’s Piers Morgan.

I honestly thought that Howie’s prank on him this time was just foolish and childish, and makes him a damn Man Child. His pranks on Piers are seriously unnecessary and just stupid. Sure, they can be funny, but makes Howie look more like an asshole than Piers. He can say some mean things, but they’re constructive and true at best.

Our (final) first contestants are The Gentleman, two well-dressed, all-around handsome brothers from Fairfield, CA making their return to impress the crowd and judges again.

After their first audition, you’d think they’d step it up and still be this cute and charming..and you’d be right.

They killed it! Again!
I thought their synchronicity was a little loose and sloppy though, and but if they do get to the Live Shows, they have to tighten it up while keeping the personality intact.
Also, these guys must love Usher enough to have him play his songs during their performances; this was the second Usher song they’ve chosen for their act, which was inappropriate and repetitive. It did show off their personality, so that’s a plus out of a negative. But they need to change that too. Other than that, their personality was full of charm, charisma, high energy and a touch of goofy. All in all. it was a really fun and cool performance and I hope they go through.

Another thing, during the shot of the other auditionees while they’re dancing, one of them said that “We need to step it up”. I said “Really, this guy is THAT worried to step up his act believes to boys are upstaging him!?”. I understand that has to happen, but I found it funny that a grown man is thinking that.

Moving on, Derek Hughes is a magician from Los Angeles. (Geez, I just realized that there are a lot of magicians here.) He claims he’s gonna to blow the judges minds (Get in line.) with his talent of mental magic.

At first, (and then later) even when he asked Howie to think of a certain city, I knew where this was going. He’s gonna find the city using “telepathy”, which is reading someone’s mind and thinking the same thing later on.
Fortunately, I was shock/surprised/happy when he threw it away, changing my perception of him a bit. That is until he picked the paper back up and shown the city of Toronto. And that one about Gunther. Which was scribbled out to reveal Bob. And the Morbid “park.”

It was still kinda predictable, though. I can understand why Piers wasn’t enjoying it as much, because I felt the same way, too, at first. He’s funny (knows how to make people), and he know how to step away from the norm of magic. That’s pretty impressive.

In the tank now are two Duo acts that are in the same sub genre of acrobatics. You know things are getting interesting when both of their names have the word “Duo” in them.

Up first is Duo Vladimir. They are two brothers (with the same NAME!) who are acrobats.
They certainly impressed the judges and audience with their act during their first audition...

and here...

That was intense, it was scary to see the Vlad on top nearly fall, and it was breathtaking when they took out swords(?) to make the act more terrifying. There was one hiccup when Top Vlad nearly slipped from the tiny perch, but they kept their balance, thank goodness.
This was a damn great act and I’d love to see them take it up another notch if they move on.

Speaking of notches, the other Duo needed to do just that to catch up with the Vlad-stics.
They’re Duo Voltra. A couple--two people who partner in trapeze.

Since their first audition (they were a couple), when they broke up, but have continued on with their act.

This act for me is better by a “thread” than Vladimir. not only is it intense because there is no net and barely a mat to land on, but it’s also beautiful to watch because of the chemistry and passion these two exes have put into it (mind you, again, they’re not a couple anymore), so this was a great act.

Of the Duo’s I think could go on to the Lives (I wish both should go; both are incredible acts), I think Voltra should move on; they have the personality, passion, chemistry and sex appeal to make the competition fiercer and tougher...and even more hotter.

After a package of acts that just don’t have the talent or impression to keep up the second time to go through,

singer Alicia Michilli took the stage to perform The Jackson 5’s classic “Who’s Loving You”. And honestly, who not loving her at that moment? She has this hot, sweet, soulful voice that can move an audience on instant, and can impress anyone (even Piers). There were points where she couldn’t reach the high or strong parts of the song, but she still pulled it off. Greatly.

Next is Semeneya, a Salsa act from San Antonio.
You may remember them as a quadruple act, but during their audition, one of the members broke his leg. The judges were sympathetic enough to give the act another chance, and, with two members taking the ranks, they knocked it out of the park.
Now during their re-audition, they’re trying again as a trio, as Luis couldn’t recover in time to return. And they knocked it out again.

Not only out of the park, but also the entire town.
That was spicy hot, the moves were hot, but the spins and sexiness of it all were fire. And the sashes on the ladies outfits were a big turn-on for me. These guys are definitely one of the best dance acts I’ve seen this season so far.

Speaking of best, Aaron Smyth (pronounced Smeith) returned, and just like in his audition,

he did his all and left nothing back here.

He stepped it up, turned up the emotion and energy and left me wanting more. Meaning for him to go to the Lives and do it again. He was

Siro-A took the stage next for their act. And...well...holy shit, look at this.

The synchronicity and timing with the video was astounding. The video wall itself is colorful, goofy and sid-splitting in all the right ways. Watching the whole thing gave me goosebumps, because even though I’ve seen acts like this before, this one here was still kinda new to me.
This act was so brilliant and convincing, that it was quite impossible for me to decipher which were the real guys, and which were the CPUs. And the music added on to the fun of it all. It was like watching something made by Nintendo.
These guys right here are the next Kenichi Ebina. I’m just saying.
So no wonder Piers pressed the Golden Buzzer for them. They truly deserve it.
Just like they also deserved this post-GB interview on Access Hollywood Live.
-- Next is Gary Vider, a comedian making his due as a dog walker. His set is about his problems with money. It was really funny. His dull persona worked on me, and the subtle jokes he made were hilarious under that. He could go far from that. Howie said his comedy is subjective, and that makes sense, as not everyone will love it, but I did, so he works well for me. Good job for him. -- Then things got terrible really fast. Kayvon went on stage and sung “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive. I’ll tell you quickly--this guy and his vocals suck. After he gets buzzed by three of the judges (No telling what Piers would’ve done), Howie defends him. I was confused as to why he would do that. But then when he explained that he thought he was a humor act, he was shocked to learn that he wasn’t. I was too; this guy believes he’s a serious talent. (the dude is stupid to believe that catshit he calls his vocals is talent) And then things get even worse when he opens his mouth. He insults Mel and her singing career, causing the other judges, especially Piers, to strike back.
I’m so damn glad Piers came back this week, because this fucker deserves to put in his place, and to wake up from the little dream that is being delusional enough to think he can sing. Screw him.

And that’s it for my critiques for the last acts to have made it this far in the competition.
In my opinion this was better than the last group. I was enjoying most of the acts and I would’ve had an ulcer choosing seven of them to go the the Lives, so thank God I didn’t choose them. But I think the judges made the right decision in choosing the acts I would’ve wanted to go.

Stevie Starr (an act that swallows and regurgitates random objects; I really didn’t like his act, but hey, I’m not on the panel), and

This was a group of acts very deserving of going to the Live Shows, in my opinion. They all posses some real nice talent in their own ways and make the competition amazing.

I was saddened to see that Semeneya, Aaron Smyth and Alex Boye were eliminated. They also had talent and likeness toward them, enough to go through, but I truly understand why they weren’t chosen: Only seven spots. And they weren’t doing enough to get those spots. I wish them well in their future endeavors.

Well, folks, that’s it. The Judge Cuts are over. The judges and their guests have chosen their favorites and they will go to the Live Shows for America to decide the winner. Who will shine? Who will fall? And what color will Nick overuse in his suit? Find out this Tuesday when America’s Got Talent goes Live!

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 3-That Was...Weird

Welcome back to America’s Got Talent--the Judge Cuts. You know how this goes:
Same as the auditions, but during this stage, the judges are joined by a special guest joining them at the panel to help find the right returning acts to take to the Live Shows.
This time around, it’s Marlon Wayans, best known from TV shows like In Living Color, The Wayans Bros., and films like White Chicks, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the “A Haunted House” series and the first two “Scary Movie” films. He’s currently the host of the new series I Can Do That, also on NBC. *sigh*
Now that we’re re-aquainted, let’s start Part 3.

First up is musical group Triple Threat, one of the early favorites from the Auditions. This all-guy group wowed us with their amazing vocals and harmonies during their first performance.

and now, their second performance, which includes an surprising song choice.

Now, comes an interesting challenge: singing “Problem” by Ariana Grande. But they pulled it off awesomely. Their vocals were just as great this time, and they even pulled off Iggy Azalea! I really like these guys; they’re sweet, charming witty, and their origin story was funny, yet cool to see, as these guys meeting would make a great outcome.

Animation Crew took the stage next to perform what they do best: popping, locking and amaze. If you haven’t noticed, that is dancing.

Here their act is mimicking a band in a toy box to The Jackson 5’s classic “I’ll Be There”. And wow, that just blew me away! Their movements--exactly like those in a music box--brilliant. And the version of “I’ll Be There” as if it was played by one was a very cool touch, playing along with the original. These guys are probably my second favorite dance troupe on the season, after FeeLuminate no doubt.

Skipping some acts, we reach ventriloquist Paul Zerdin. Last time, he straight up blew the judges' minds with his dummy skills.

And this time, he brought a special guest along with him.

My God, this guy is hilarious. His content and humor are hilarious, his ventriloquism is shockingly brilliant, and the guy knows his stuff like he done this when he was in the womb. He is a million-dollar act, and he really deserved getting the Golden Buzzer by Wayans. I know he’s gonna do huge things in the Live Shows.
Make him another British act getting the Golden Buzzer and going straight to the Live Shows. And to make it another running gag, here’s his appearance on Access Hollywood Live. Just because.

Straight after him, is another act blowing the minds of everyone, Oz Perelman.

In his re-audition, he wants the How’s to let him check into his heads.

That was great, but I wasn’t very interested in his act. It pretty much the same thing as his last act. But I did love when he cutted up Oprah Winfrey for Howard. That was impressive.

Reaching past more acts, Mountain Faith Band are back to play us a good song again (or bluegrassy cover of a pop song).
During their last appearance, they covered OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” with great fun....

and now, they’re playing to “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness. (heh, a straight-up contrast between both bands).

They did an amazing job with the cover. I’ve never heard the song before, but I’ve enjoyed this cut of it. I can bet the original was really dark, considering it’s a HEAVY METAL song, but these guys make it like it’s their own, without ruining it for their fans.
I really like this band; they’re my absolute favorite music group on this show, and I think they’ll bring a bit more to the table when the Live Shows come around.

Next, Vita Radionova, contortionist extraordinaire.

Hot. damn.
That was sexy beyond belief, so much so I had to research the show’s rating. That was hot to watch, but I got a definite feeling that she’ll do some of the same if she goes to the Lives. Unless she mixes it up, it’ll be corny as crap.
The look on Marlon’s face (along with, well, every male face shown) was just hilarious.

Benton Blout is the final act of Part Three, and out of the gate, he just reaches near-Chris Daughtry levels of rock.

He adds a really nice rough bluesy, soul-ish sound to this cover, and I just really enjoyed listening. I like this guy; his voice is like a breath of fresh air, despite it sounding rough, harsh and sandy like the music in Kanye West’s “Yeezus”.
I like him.

And now, the choices whom will go on to the Live Shows.
(And yes, if you have noticed, there are less from the last two Parts, because all that's reviewed here are the ones going. I just got tired of watching on Hulu because it cuts off after pausing for a few minutes. It's frustrating; even when the other option is going on Wikipedia and seeing who goes and who doesn't.)

--All of these acts are, in my opinion really good choices. And that's, more often than not, because other acts were really terrible. They did not deserve going through because of the Sophomore Slump. They either got less exciting or got even worse. So i'm glad for the judges to choose these choices. Some aren't spectacular, but they're better than fine here.

Anyway, this Judge Cuts segment is fluctuating. It started out great (although it was wildly expected), then it went downhill from there, and picked up a bit here. Suffice to say, it's gonna be a hard time getting excited for the last Week (or Part by me) of the Judge Cuts. Hopefully, I'll be happy enough. Join me soon for Part 4, the final Part, of the Judge Cuts.

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 2-That Was...Still Expected

Hello, everyone.
The Judge Cuts on America’s Got Talent has heated up.
Last week, 20 acts have re-appeared and faced the judges (along with a special guest) to prove why they’re deserving of their place in the Live Shows. 13 have fallen, while 7 have risen the ranks to secure their spots. I honestly thought almost all of the choices made were very expected, and that the end was anticlimactic...but when Alondra Santos wasn’t chosen, I was shocked. Oh well. I’m glad all of these acts I really like are going through.

This week, it’s a different course.
20 more acts are making their marks one again; and again, only 7 acts will be going to Radio City Music Hall. I was even less than pleased with this group; even if the judges had a hard time getting rid of some real good acts, it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
Let’s see which acts will go to New York this time (that is, those we obviously know will be going).

But first, another round of the opening credits with the judges and shit.
This week, they are joined by Michael Buble, one of the most talented and incomparable talents and voices in music today. And host of his Christmas specials on NBC. Whichever is more relevant at the moment.

Now, let’s get started.

First up, magician Aiden Sinclair.
If you remember him, this guy previously had a really bad life as a con artist, and ended up in jail for his scams. During his time in the slammer, he picked up a book on magic and learned the ways of the profession. He has since gotten out a changed man and has made wiser moves in life to move away from his past, including appearing on AGT with an amazing audition. That was amazing.

But somehow, that couldn’t compare to this second audition he did.
Oh. My. God. This just blew everyone’s mind. I--I just can’t wrap my mind around this.
His talent is just spectacular. He’s going through. He’s definitely going through.
Another great start. Another bar set.

Of course it’s going to be hard for the other acts to be just as great.
But damn if they don’t try.

Shirley Claire is up first. This 87-year-old firecracker has been making us laugh, smile and feel any us should be her fifth husband since her audition. Man, can she sing!

Now, she’s back for another knockout. She’s still got it.

I love this woman! She’s witty, charming, charismatic and hot. She can make me her romantic partner if she wants; I can be down as a cougar’s mate.

Daniella Mass is a singer originally from Colombia now living in the US to chase her dreams.
She sang “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, and…

well, what can I say? This girl has the voice that can move mountains, open up skies and possibly breathe life into anything. I’d be pissed if she didn’t go--she deserves to.

Ira (and his mother) has returned with one goal in mind: impress, and one day settle down with, Melanie. But he now has another reason to continue on in the competition: Sing to everyone and make them happy.

I felt a little cringed for Mel. This guy’s--(I can’t believe I’m referring to this thing as a guy like I am a human)--his whole schtick is just singing his feelings about Mel B to her and everyone else, in front of her. That’s not very funny. That is...a little creepy. The dude (or the guy controlling “him” from behind) can sing, but this angle is getting really annoying at this point. And if he goes, I don’t think I’ll be a fan of this anymore.

Next up is Benjamin Yonnaton. He is a dancer with a painful obstacle in his life: he is legally blind. But that won’t stop him from living his dream.

This young man is inspiring. He wants to dance (and can dance) and won’t let his decreasing vision stop him. Which is great thing to see. His audition was beautiful to watch and had me emotional.

In this reprisal, Uzeyer is attempting to reach the top of a wobbly ladder and stand on it; no mat, no net, no safety. I wasn’t very impressed with this. It was great for him to climb the ladder and make it wobble to ass suspense, but when he stood on top for a few seconds, I was a bit disappointed. I mean, I was like “That’s it? Really?”--I wanted more than that, and this left me sad. I know there are people who’ll say “Come on, this is amazing; no one can do this like he can”
I know; it’s really hard to do, but if you’re going to fight for a spot to the Live Shows, it should be more exciting and extravagant that this. His audition was better. That was cool to see though.

Ryan Shaw. Aw, man. This dude has some golden pipes!

Seriously, it probably should be a crime if he doesn’t make it to the Live Shows. He’s that good His three GRAMMY NOMINATIONS are an impressive feat to have in a music career.

The Craig Lewis Band. Man, these guys are aMAZing!!
First the audition was tantalizing...

...and now their second act is just as fantastic.

Like Ryan Shaw, these brothers are so talented and have some of the best voices on this show this season. They have everything to make it far, and I think they can make it far. Which is why I was so glad that Michael pressed the Golden Buzzer for them. They so deserve it.

Speaking of deserving, DM Nation returned for their next turn. The all-girl dance troupe already impressed the judges and the crowd the last time (in two words: THAT TURN).

And now, here’s what their re- gives us.

Well, the title of the YT video said “Power and Precision”, and that’s what we’ve gotten. These girls still got the moves and timing down pat--right down to every inch of the beat of the three songs featured. I do pretty strongly feel that the Audition was better, but I still enjoyed what I gotten here.

Scott Heierman. My God, this man is hilarious.

His comedic skills under the guise of being a drag queen led him to be one of my favorites during auditions. I couldn’t wait to see him again during this round, hoping he wouldn’t disappoint…
Unfortunately, he did...but not for the reason you think.

He was so overwrought with emotion, that he forgot his lines and messes up his whole act. That is a terrible and painful thing to see; watching people lose their strength and determination to perform an act after so much practice and perfection, and with so much hype and excitement for you to continue what everyone loved you for. It’s that sad.
I felt very sorry for him to start this high, and then reach this fall from grace.. He really was one of my faves, and now it’s disappointing that he won’t go on to the Live Shows. Oh well.
Good luck to him wherever he goes, and hopefully he’ll come back this season and maybe knock it out of the park again.

And finally, the last act of Part 2, Selected of God Choir.

Here they perform a cover of Destiny’s Child classic “Survivor”. And already, out of the park, they KILLED it! Their vocals, harmonies and -- were just beautiful. And it was a perfect song for them to sing---just take out ex-boyfriend for something related to evil and you’ve got a perfect performance from a Gospel group. This group is really talented and I hope to hear from them again in the Live Shows.

I expected myself to be shocked by these decisions; and boy, were my expectations exceeded.

--Ira over Aiden Sinclair? Freaking BLASPHEMY!! Ira is talented (is funny and can sing), but his continuing aspirations for Mel are a turn-off to me. Aiden’s a very good magician, and his acts left me speechless. If anything, he should’ve went through than him.
I mean...puppets!?! Really, judges!? Come ON!
--Another thing is this: another two acts had to go too: Shirley Claire, Ryan Shaw. It’s sad. But it’s understandable why. Some of these acts had to go no matter how great they are. You think it’s hard choosing which ones will go on, try being the judges and see how easy this is. But what makes not much sense is that out of the seven acts that did go through, only four of them I actually like. The rest are mediocre to me at best.
--I read some of the comments on the bottom of the episode’s Hulu page, and some people believe the reason Benjamin got through is because of his terrible sight issue--The judges let him go through because they had sympathy for him. That’s quite understandable, but, I find him a talented dancer, whether blind or not, and I find it annoying that people are continually referring to him as “the blind kid”, which pisses me off. How would you feel is someone refered to other auditionees as “the ex-con magician” (Aiden) or “sexy Colombian” (Daniella) or “the hot old bag” (Shirley) or
I can understand your opinions; It’s the fact that people are calling him “the blind kid” (and not his freakin’ name!) that’s driving me crazy. People, this is the internet! Stop typing in this dumb-ass term and refer to him by his name! It’s not that damn hard!

And now, my brief thoughts on Michael Buble as guest judge. He was pretty good. He really charming and had some one-lines that made me laugh (most notably during Uzeyer Novruzov’s re-audition), but he wasn’t as hilarious as NPH, so all is balanced out.

Well, that does it for this week. Another seven acts have made it to the Live Shows--making the number double to 14, and now the stage is set for another 20 acts to try to give it their all for a chance to advance to the Live Shows. AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 1-That Was...Expected

It's finally here.
After 7 weeks of watching some of the best (and most horrible) talent the United States had to offer, the best (or those that fascinated the judges and pandered to the audience the most) were chosen to compete against each other on a bigger stage in front of the entire country, hoping their favorites go on to the highest stage of them all, the stage of the Live Shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Who will shine and rise? Who will crash and burn? Let's find out, as it's time for Part 1 of...
The Judge Cuts.

After the open, in which the producers suddenly think we’ve either forgotten the names of the judges, or that they’re continuing to hype them up like they star in the one show NBC actually bothers to promote. And if that wasn’t enough, during this stage of this season, for the first time, they’re joined by a special guest: an actor...who starring on another show on NBC. That’s it.
(I can’t hype up something that’s hyped up to the heavens)
This week, that actor is Neil Patrick Harris--best known for his starring roles in Doogie Howser MD and How I Met Your Mother. He will be making his big return to TV in the fall, hosting a variety show on the Peacock called Best Time Ever. (come on, I can think of a better name that fits more.)

Now that the over 4 minutes of eye-rolling judges filler (and even more eye-rolling product placement for Dunkin’ Donuts) is over, let’s get to what should be the real stars of the show: the acts.

These acts have worked their entire lives for the moment of reaching the Auditions stage, and getting the okay (or “Yes” in this case) to go this, the round where they must impress the judges a second time (this time, along with another studio audience) to get the round of “Yes's” that will officially take them to the Live Shows in New York City.
While few others have gotten better shots to make it there, these guys will have to give it everything they’ve got to get to that round.

After an actually hilarious bit with Neil pressing his Golden Buzzer,
The first returning act is the FreeLuminate Dance Company. Their audition was one of the best I’ve seen this season, so I didn’t hope much that they’d get the okay; I knew they’d go. But their act here was worthy of the ascension anyway. It is a geniusly beautiful recreation of the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, with a third member portraying the Devil, and a use of some of the Seven Deadly Sins. It was dark, intense and powerful, yet beautiful and breathtaking. Their dancing was amazing and the graphics and story were straight perfection. I just loved everything I saw, and immediately shows how FreeLuminate has become one of the best acts of this season. Well. Done.

Next up is Paul Ponce, the juggler who got into his career at the circus because of his parents, &
His parents Silvia Silva and Viktor (whom I’ll refer to from now on as Viktor Volt), the act involving shooting arrowing into balloons, have been circus performers since they were children, and has inspired their own child to take up circus performing.
They are a family who’ve came to AGT to compete...against each other?
The Juggling-and-Shooting Alliterative Same-namers have had really good auditions:

Paul’s audition juggling boomerang hats across the audition stage and judges desk was awesome,

while Sylvia and Viktor Volt’s act was mindblowingly awesome, with balloons being shot every time. But...
“Viktor, are you still alive?!”

"Of course, I'm still alive."
“Oh yeah, he’s still alive.”
so let’s see what Paul’s come with this time. Balancing a ball on his head.

Honestly, it wasn’t good. He was messing up more than once, including the start (if the ball hitting ground first and his actions around it were an indicator), he had so much trouble keeping balance, and he had to move around the stage to keep perfect. Even with nice brief shots of showmanship (like using a rope to have it single-dutch), it wasn’t impressive or awesome enough to get a good rating from the judges (or me, apparently).
It’s obvious he won’t be going through. What a letdown.

Meanwhile, Silvia and Viktor Volt are trying the shooting-the-balloons again, this time she's by herself, and the object is apples.

It was just as suspenseful and chilling, yet great as the last time.

After that are the Chapkis Dance Family. 28 members, 14 to 35 (call the eldest the Vanilla Ice)
I haven’t noticed them during Auditions; probably because they’re one of the many acts that got a small piece package during one of the episodes, so you can’t blame me for that.
They’re gonna dance… . That was great; the energy exhibited from all the members great and their moves (synchronized or chain reaction) were fantastic. I hope these guys--if they move on--do a lot more this, because I certainly get a kick out of dance groups with moves like that.

Skipping the “professional cuddler” (I don’t even know why she even made it past the auditions!),
along with the acts that got a short piece package waiting for them,
we go to Alondra Santos, the 13-year-old singer with the pipes of a grown young adult (seriously, kid can sing).

For this re-audition, she comes to the stage in a beautifully awesome billowing dress to sing a lovely Spanish ballad, "Cu-cu Ru Cu-cu Paloma".

Her voice is just wonderful to hear the second time, and her spirit, like Neil said, is “wise beyond your years”. She seems like a cinch to make it to the Live Shows.

Two magicians walk into a soundstage. One gets the title of the better one.
The first is Michael John.
After his first audition where he uses card trick as an excuse to kiss Mel,

he returns here, coming in with a coin and a can of soda, and leaving a nervous wreck who needs to rethink his dreams.

It was slow and painful to watch, and it was clear from the sound and tone of his voice at the start-- that he was nervous as crap. For a magician to make an impression, he has to keep the audience engaged and keep it going as quickly as possible. They can’t be patient...or don’t want to be. Seriously, NPH is a magician himself; I had a feeling he might’ve gotten bored at this too. It was a really good trick, but the timing was just really off. He needs to fix that if he goes to the Live Shows He needs a character, too.

Fortunately enough, the other magician has just that and a lot more.
He’s Piff the Magic Dragon.

He wowed everyone--and I mean everyone (me included)--during his audition. He surprised us with his magic, and kept us laughing with his tailor-made snarky, wacky, humor. Putting them together in his brand made him a true-blue hot commodity (ironically he’s green).

This time around, for his second turn-out, he brought a friend along for his audience: his magic dog, Mr. Piffles (he’s not a really a dragon; just a dog in a dragon costume).
He certainly raised the stakes even higher this time, and for good reason. He’s talented and funny. His magic skills are very impressive and his irreverent humor just keels me. You’d think he’d say something, but he’ll say something else, and that’s what makes him awesome. He is a perfect hybrid of magician, comedian and dragon--perfect recipe for one of the best acts right there.
So yeah...he’s going to Radio City Music Hall. Yep, Neil pressed his Golden Buzzer and let The Piffman go all the way to the RC. He deserves it.

Nick mentions in VO that Piff would be on Access Hollywood Live for his thoughts on his amazing act and even amazing look on his face when he learns he’d be going to the Live Shows. Here it is:
-- Remember Myq Kaplan? No? Me neither, but I’m regretting it now. Because he’s really funny. His content on romantic relationships--and why he sucks at them, going out on a date and philosophy just made me laugh very good. I like him and I hope he goes through. -- After a package of singers who sound much better for a cruise ship or a lounge, We meet 3 Shades of Blue. They performed “Fairly Local” by twenty one pilots. It was a great payoff. These guys remind me positively of Imagine Dragons: these guys are also a rock band with a very cool pop-rock band sound, and can make crowds go wild. I wish these guys luck. -- After some more acts we know aren’t going through, and Grand Master Qi Feilong (no comment), we get to the final act of Part 1 of the Judge Cuts, Samantha Johnson. Here, she sang Sam Smith’s recording of emotion, pain and loss “Lay Me Down”. And...that was just beautiful. Her vocals were perfectly entangled in true raw emotion and passion from every single line in the song. It’s like she’s a natural born singer from that moment. If Sam himself heard this, he would be very proud...just like I am. --- Okay, before we get to the results, let me state: I knew all of the acts going to the Live Shows would be going before Nick read the results. I figured from a mile away that at least some of them would go just from the strength of their auditions, coupled with the strength of their performances this week. This, coupled with the short sightings of other acts, and acts that didn’t do well the second time around, made my thoughts on the first week of The Cuts set in stone. Only one result truly shocked me, as I didn’t expect her to go home. And Now to the Results: FreeLuminate Dance Company Sylvia Sylvia & Viktor Volt Chapkis Dance Company Myq Kaplan 3 Shades of Blue Samantha Johnson Piff the Magic Dragon (Golden Buzzer choice) The Acts I Like are Going: All of them

I was shocked as hell when Alona was not going to the Lives, as, at first, I thought she was way better than Samantha Johnson. Don’t get me wrong, I thought Samantha was very talented as well, but I felt that Alona should go through because of her talent at a young age. I knew she wouldn’t make it to the end of competition, but I hope she would make it to the bigger stage.
(I hope to God that she’ll be chosen later in the competition as a Wild Card Pick, because her talent should not go unnoticed for so long.If not, then...oh well. I wish her luck in life.)
But after a second listen, I’m really glad Samantha is going, because her talent is a godsend to hear and a catalyst for her to be a perfect act to be seen during the Live Shows.

Other than that, from watching this week’s start to the Judges’ Cuts, the writing on the wall was clear for many of the acts the second they step on stage. It was obvious from the editing to the other acts’ performances that make this episode rather anti-climatic, no matter how many cuts to commercial there were or how many random song the show will play obnoxiously.
That doesn’t mean that this was bad. I enjoyed watching very much. The acts I liked, along with some I don’t follow, put out great showings, and make this season more enjoyable and exciting as it passes. This was a great start to this part of the season, and I hoped that it would go as great as we go along to the next Part.

Neil was a great temporary addition to the team; his humor was priceless, his charm was perfect the choice for his pressing the Golden Buzzer was amazing and can do great in almost anything (at least in TV and life).

And that will do it for the First Part of the Judge Cuts. 20 acts came in and seven walked out with a slight victory in going to the Live Shows. The choices the judges have made in getting there were brilliant and all of them are absolutely awesome in their talents. I can’t wait to see what these guys have coming at us during the Live Shows. especially FreeLuminate, Myk , Samantha and Piff. Wow, what a season this is going to be.

#AGTXReview: Auditions -- Ep. 5 - Break it Off or Valley of the Doll or Elderymetal

Hello again, folks.. The America’s Got Talent Auditions continue to entertain, excite and inspire, with more acts coming in to audition and hopefully go to the Live Shows and possibly win $1,000,000 and a Headlining Show in Las Vegas. But before this, is a hurdle they must pass before reaching such (and another hurdle for us to pass before Vegas.) Again, I'm spotlighting 8 acts, and all of them are great to watch here, with the the

First, another great open, as the auditionees AND judges are driving to this week’s auditions (...wherever they are). While the girls ride in a cute pink Model-T, the guys hit the streets in a hot-as-fire red Muscle. It’s nice to the judges to whatever they do before reaching the auditions...even if it is fake as hell.

First up is The Gentlemen aka 19-year-old Zach and 12-year-old Cameron.
This tux-donning duo from Fairfield, CA exhibit a short-fry style is hip-hop, break-dancing and popping. I knew from watching that they were going to be awesome up there, and I was right.

Their moves, whether individually or together, are fantastic to watch. They are really talented and have held me over as much as the judges, I enjoyed their style and grace. Plus, they were having fun on stage as much as I was watching them. I certainly felt the pride that their parents and sister showed on stage, and I share it with them. I couldn’t be as proud as they were for their sons/brothers, because when family is there for you and support you, even when you lose, other people’s pride couldn’t even try to reach a millionth to there’s. But I’ll be there to try.
Great job to The Gentlemen, and I’ll be ecstatic to see them in the Live Shows.

Next up is Mentalist Oz Pearlman, a stockbroker from New York, who left his career in Wall Street to chase his dream of magic. If you read the fourth word in that last sentence, you’d already know what he does for a living and what he’ll do during his audition. But what he’s done here with the Judges will no doubt amaze you.

Again, amazing.

Semeneya is a dance troupe doing Salsa. The ladies are already hot, so this can’t be better. But it was...kinda.

They do need to tune their moves, but that was a great start. That is, until I realized later that one of the dancers got hurt from a bad landing. I was a little shocked.
And I hoped that he’ll be okay, and that they’ll go on. Whichever is better, I stand behind.
The troupe got a choice from the judges, and chose to stay with their friend now in the hospital with two of them as a duo continuing the audition...and they still got the ball rolling. Speeding, even! The quickness is stunning, and the moves and chemistry between the dancers was off-the-charts stupendous! I nearly couldn’t breathe from watching that. I love these guys, and I think they are one of the best dance troupes I’ve seen this season so far, and I know they’ll make it to the Lives. But I’ll be disappointed if they didn’t.

Shel Higgens is a stuntman. And he’s a grandpa. (which EXPLAINS why his wife didn’t appear with him during his audition).

I was almost breathless when he picked up that jacksaw to his apple-holding mouth. I knew what would happen, yet I was still cringing from the thought of not reaching the apple. I wasn’t all that impressed with it. But I’m seeing some potential in him, if he changes it up.
And if those of you come at me with a comment telling me to try the act or that I’m jealous of his talent (and I’m not), it’s just that even with the element of suspense and danger, it’s still an act of an old man cutting an apple in his mouth. It still isn’t as great as other acts to me. Sorry.

Next up is Alex Boye, a Nigerian singer originally from London, and now residing in Salt Lake City.
His act involves covering popular songs and, with his band, giving them an African flavor. The song for his Audition is Taylor Swift’s already future-classic “Shake It Off”.

First off, I didn’t know he was so popular on YouTube before making his appearance on AGT. So I should check out his covers on his Channel for more. Which makes my opinion more sensical.
I loved what he brought to his act. But in my opinion, it didn’t really sound “African” to me at first. It sounds like any other cover by anyone else. Even the horns sound normal. Maybe the tempo and Boye’s vocals are the reasons for the concept and what makes the cover here, I’m not sure. But nonetheless, because of the fast, fun nature and amazing sound, I loved the performance, as well as the ending when Boye did a jump off the stage, and INTO A BACKFLIP!!!
Holy crap! That was really good. His outfit is cool, too. And so is strut face right here as well.

This guy deserves going to Vegas, and I can't wait for whatever covers he'll do next.

I love Metalachi.
They’re a band that fuses Metal AND Mariachi! That alone is enough to give them their own show. But we have to see what they do first.

That’s it?? Okay. Well...they did so awesomely! Both genres are played very well and balanced perfectly. These guys know what they’re doing and seem to have a lot of fun doing so. Just like I had fun watching their audition. I wish I knew a lot more about the band, but since they’re going to Vegas, I hope the producers would shell out at least a little bit of screentime for them for a more proper intro.
(And funny story: I thought the song they played, “We’re Not Gonna Take It Anymore”, was the Theme from Sesame Street. hee-hee, right? Right?)

Oleksiy Mogylnyy is a Hand Balancer originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, who's now residing in Las Vegas. (Ironic)
This dude balanced himself on a doll. not. kidding.

And that was awesome. Seeing as the doll doesn’t fall off or even move, it just makes me gasp for air. I have no other words other than “he deserves to go to Vegas and the Lives!”. He is an act I would pay to see there.

This next auditionee is the next to get the Golden Buzzer.
Her name is Arielle Barril. And she is a singer.
But what she did, straight up shocked me, the audience and the Judges.

She sang Opera! And she really sounded like an Adult! And she was really good! Blew us all away for sure.

And that’s it for now. all of these acts are extremely amazing in what they do and deserve to go to Vegas. I’m so excited to see Vegas Week get bigger and more exciting. Gosh, I’m so giddy for what comes next week. See you then for the review.

#AGTXReview: Auditions--Ep. 4--To The EXTREME!!!!

Another week, another group of auditions that wowed the hell out of me.
So let's see which acts will be another of my pseudo-favorites come time for the Vegas Round.

The first act this week is a dance squad from LA aptly-named...The Squad.
(I am a sucker for dance troupes, those who bring it and surprise us all with their tricks and surprises that amaze me.)
These guys were not an exception: their delayed/chain-reaction/synchronized (at different times) moves surprised AND wowed me and apparently the judges, too. Just look at Howie clean-shaven face.



These guys are another act I really enjoyed a lot. I’m so glad they’ll move on to Vegas.
Also, one of the members has a nice-as-hell ponytail of light purple and silver hair. Whoever put that together did their damn thing!


22-year-old Daniella Mass, originally from Colombia, now working in the United States as an employee at her friend’s furniture store. Her act is singing Opera, specifically Andrea Bocelli’s classic “Con te Partiro”.
Right out of the park, she blew me away with her very lovely voice and her very sexy Italian accent. Hearing her was like a light looking into Heaven. Who knew a voice like this came out a lovely shrinking violet of a woman, that it’s so mind-blowing. Great job for her, and I can’t wait to see more of her in Vegas and, hopefully, the Live Shows.

Since after this act, and other acts that I'll mention below, we go to the bread and butter, the acts that everyone wanted to see, the acts NBC advertised over and over, with some intended editing to make it look like one of them didn't survive. These are the EXTREME! acts.

And now for the meat of the episode, here's the EXTREME! acts.
These acts are more rugged, crazy and dangerous than most other acts. So for them to perform their auditions, they have to go outside of the arena to do so.


First off, it’s a freestyle motocross group by the name of Metal Mulisha Fitz’s Army.
They basically fly their bikes in their air, and showboat. Four of their friends died doing this, so this could be a death wish for them. But boy, did they make my mouth drop.
While in the air, they made these super-awesome tricks and handstands and whatnots. They clearly practiced this and it paid off. Anyone could’ve died from this, like their four friends have. And none of them sustained even a scratch. That was heart-stopping good, and I would definitely pay to see this. These guys did a great job, and I must see them again.


Just like I’d want to see Damone Rippy from Austin. HE'S 16! (that’s the reaction from female audience members...for some reason.) His skill is flyboarding, which involves a mechanism on his feet that makes him fly above the water like Iron Man. That’s cool, but his skills while doing so is even more cool. The spins, flips, hits into and out of the water and whatnot, is awesome. This 16-year-old boy is amazingly talented.


Next up is Cliff Ryder (even his name is perfect for a daredevil) from Malibu, CA. He’s a base jumper, and he’s lost friends whom have done this for the first time, so this is nuts.
He’s going to be jumping out of a helicopter from 3,000 feet of the ground and falls at 120 MPH. Which he does. Amazingly
While it was great to watch, I don’t think this will be an act I would see over and over again. A guy jumping from the top of a building, and then another building, and then a higher building before reaching smaller and smaller targets isn’t one that can sit well for me. Not because it’s not exciting; because of how it plays out. You know he’s going to jump, you know he’s crazy, you know he’s gonna pull the cord close to the ground. And I don't want to see a man die on Live TV. But the excitement factor is gonna keep me interested and hopefully he changes it up every time. Good luck to him.

And lastly is web developer Wally Glen.
It’s just a man in a bodysuit wrapped in fireworks, setting himself on fire. I only see “one-time-only” appeal in that.


I do have one thought for all of these, though:
How can they continue doing these acts during Vegas Weeks and the Live Shows? They can’t fit water into or have enough room for their motorbikes inside Radio City Music Hall. Also, there’s no way they can’t change up their acts every week. Plus I’ve seen acts like this do their thing, and then not reach the Live Shows before. So I don’t think I’ll see these guys in New York come next month and August.

Anyway, these guys were awesome in their auditions and their acts get the job done individually. I enjoyed all of their auditions and will seeing a higher of excitement coming soon.

Acts I Won’t See After Vegas:

--At the beginning of the 120 minutes, after The Squad, there was a hot hula dancer named Marawa. Her talent is awesome. Watching her twirl that many hoops was amazing and hot. But even hotter (literally AND figuratively) was her twirling a hoop lit on fire...high above the floor.
As much as I enjoyed that (and would pay to see this), I don’t think she would make it past Vegas. Unless she would switch it up every week, I feel her act would get staler and staler as her stay keeps going.

--Aiden Sinclair, from Cheyenne, WY, is a former con man who changed his life after he found love and friends, and decided to give himself up for the better. During his time in jail, he found a magic book, and hasn’t stopped reading and tricking since. During his act he wowed the judges and the crowd with a card trip, involving one card turned and a call to Howard’s mother, who chose the 10 of Hearts. And wouldn’t you know it, the card was the 10 of Hearts.
While his audition was really amazing, and his life story was inspiring (Everyone makes mistakes and can get a second chance), I don’t feel his act are very impressive. I could be wrong, and if I am, I would happily eat crow (not literally, though).

--Hanako Matsuyama is an IT Engineer, who has lived in America for two years, and decided to dedicate her audition to her new home country. While that’s beautiful, her act of bale
I don’t blame the ladies for their pressing their buzzers, as “un-American” as it was.
I will say this: I can’t do what she’s doing, as she does this for years; but either her ballet or singing isn’t going to be an exciting act is she does go forward, which won’t happen.

In the end, this was a really good episode:
The hype was worth it for this episode and the acts featured here was awesome to watch and would be even more awesome to see again. The inside acts were just as great. I can’t wait to see more next week and I hope you will join me then.
