Paralyzed Man Dies After 51 HOURS of Police Neglect | Serious Post

This post is a response to
a video from The Young Turks,
and an article from the Daily Beast.

This is another reason some Police Departments should never be trusted.
They won't care about you even if you are in need of medical attention. That is what happened to Elliot Williams when he was taken to jail after a mental breakdown and ends up dying in a prison cell after 51 hours (over 2 days!!) of neglect by the staff.

Elliot Williams was an Army veteran from Oklahoma who suffers from mental breakdowns after his wife left him some time ago. During one spat at a hotel in Tulsa, the city police was called and took Mr. Williams to the county jail. At some point in time (it was unknown how and when this happened), he broke his neck in his cell. Since this time, he was paralyzed from the neck down, and could only barely move his arms. Jail employees didn't do a thing because they believed he was "faking" his injuries to get attention (some tried to get him help, while others ignored their calls) (or that they all just didn't care). Because of this, Mr. Williams, wallowing in his own bodily fluids, suffered in his cell in 51 straight hours of pain, torture and malnutrition, and later died of his injuries.

No charges were filed against any of the officers or jail employees in this case.
UNBELIEVABLE.

First they didn't take him to a holding cell or take him in for questioning or to calm him down. They took him to a regular cell. Plus he was naked. What would he have on him that they thought would kill or at least hurt them with when they have guns and tasers in their possession?!? I bet nothing.

Back to the "faking it" part, this was where the foolishness set in here. What police officer or jail employee thought saying "help" for over a day or not doing anything is considered "faking it"?! Your job is to help wounded inmates. Too bad these people didn't; they just didn't nothing to treat him; just going to his room, look at him, TAUNT him, and occasionally drop a plate of food in front of him (but out of his reach). (Sure some of them DID try to help, but they gave up soon enough.) Because that's what a good little prison staff does.
But hey, Wardens, orderlies and Nurse Ratched-s, if you all thought this man was faking, and was instead giving probably an Academy Award-winning performance, then I have news for you: he wasn't and you are all disgusting, Dishonest pieces of subhuman crap. And the sheriff is the worst; he lied about checking on him, had his workers lie as well, also called black inmates "Negroids" and "Negronoids" (just toeing the line between those names and "Nigger") and had an attorney defend him as this honest, fair, caring person who sticks up for the community and give everyone a fair ideal of it all.
Give me a fucking break.

fucking shame on you all. If you all thought he didn't need help in Hour 1 or Hour 2--or even Hour 10, wouldn't you think he needed help at Hour 40 or Hour 47?? Does his cries for help mean anything then?? Of course not, you heartless pieces of shit.

This is yet another reason why black people don't trust the police (especially those departments in the South). When they cross paths, it never goes well; Some die, some get arrested, some get arrested and then die in their cells. In Elliot Williams' case, it was the latter. He didn't do anything wrong; he just suffered a breakdown after his wife left him (most men are crushed when this happens). Yes, we don't know what happened when this happened, but nothing was revealed. And yet he got to go to jail and suffered a broken neck and no medical treatment for his troubles. Disgusting.

Fortunately, there is a sliver of a silver lining in this story, as Mr. Williams' family did get some justice for Elliot. Last week, a federal jury sided with Williams' family in a court case against Tulsa County (which probably owns the jail) and Sheriff Stanley Glanz (GOOD; he deserves it after probably spearheading the whole thing). His estate was received $10.2 million from the state and $250,000 from Glanz (he should've given more and then went to jail). Elliot's brother Kevin cried during the verdict, had later this to say after the case's completion outside the courhouse:

“Somebody should have been charged. I’m not satisfied fully but I’m content with the decision”

I feel very sorry for this man and his family, who really didn't deserve to have his brother, son and relative taken away from him/them.
Such a painful loss, and I wish Williams family well.

Again, all of the employees are not charged in this. This is gross, but not surprising. Many higher-ups in the U.S. prison system have down horrible things to inmates or each other for power, and they get away with it every time. And this time's no different. I hope they get charged soon and that everyone who did nothing but mock him and ignore him (and those who did very little too) go to jail and maybe then go through the same things Mr. Williams did until his undeserved demise. And when they all die in gross painful circumstances (especially Sheriff Glanz), karma has struck them hard.

Fuck the police.
