Star vs. The Forces of Evil Review: ST OLGA'S REFORM SCHOOL FOR WAYWARD PRINCESSES

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I am Andrew and I welcome you to the loquacious, superb, and magnanimous article you'll ever see on this trash website.
(Translation: Hey, fellow Stargazers! It's Star vs. The Forces of Evil Review Time!!)

Tonight's review is on the series first ever half-hour episode, meaning this installment is different from other episodes in that it it shown in two pats.
(Translation: It's "St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses" and it exactly what you want to expect from this show.)

Now, this review is a little different.
You see, usually during this Review series, I write done the description of the episode, with my thoughts randomly inserted between scenes. Here's that's not going to happen. Instead, in honor of this being the first half hour episode, this review will be just...review. No story, no random thoughts, just what you would expect in other reviews. This will be for just this episode, and probably more episodes like this someday. Hope you enjoy it.

In it, Star must face her greatest fear and travel to St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses to bust out Flying Princess Pony Head for her birthday.

Lemme tell ya:
Ever since I first heard the words “St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses”,
I was quite intrigued. But when I heard it a second time, along this quote from King Pony Head in "Party with a Pony",
“It's reform school, cupcake, not jail. Although admittedly it is a lot like jail.”,
my intrigue increased, and when we saw this,

I wanted MOOOOREE.

When I went to the Wiki site, it revealed that a half-hour episode would air later on in the season, I was excited. But then, when I saw that the episode in question is entitled “St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses”... I was overjoyed at what I saw. I couldn’t wait to finally enjoy the dark, scary and menacing confines of St. Olga’s, what Starco would be doing inside, the gameplan to escape and the escape itself.
Then I saw a pic of Marco wearing a dress…

(with eyelashes, apparently) and I was like…”Oooohhhh, YEEEEAAAAHHH. I’m so ready!”.
And now, that it's finally here, I can tell you personally, that this was worth the long wait, and even longer fantasies.

In this episode, it’s Princess Pony Head’s birthday, and Star wants it to be her best ever, and to to that, she has to break her out of St. Olga’s and give her the time of her life.
-This is a crazy gesture, but to me, it’s very sweet as well. Because back in “Party with a Pony”, Pony Head decided to spend her last day of freedom with Star [and Marco, too, or as she referred to him as Earth Turd] by having some fun with them in different dimensions, while hiding from school guards and keeping them low about it. Here Star decides to return the favor by giving her a birthday present worth busting out for. Literally. That being sneaking out St. O’s and going on a day of freedom. But from the little anecdotes we’ve heard about it, that’s not an easy feat. But it’s gonna be a thrill to watch.

I read on the WIkia page that there was a part of the scene where Starco that Star’s outfit transformation (animation and music) were based on Sailor Moon. Which was awesome, and another nifty example of its amazing homages to Anime.

The incidental music used is brilliant. Dark, haunting, sounds used amazing well with each scene involving it. They set the mood off perfectly and get you feeling excited and scared at the same time. It gives the great impression that you're in for the ride of your life, yet the ride has never stops until the end. It's the brilliant work of . This guy should receive more credit for his work.

Let’s get deeper here. I really felt sorry for Pony Head during her stay at St. O’s, even though she may have deserved it. I mean...look at this.

This is just mortifying.
I also felt saddened by what the other princesses go through here. All of the princesses seen in this place were living through a living nightmare, where the people who work there take their individuality, freedom, happiness and spirit, and then turn them into monotone, brainwashed, zombie-esque nothings. And it’s just...unsettling. Makes you wonder why their parents really sent them there in the first place.

Whatever Star said about this place, she was right about. This place is even worse than what she scarcely described. Even if she was overreacting, at least you gotta believe her for all of this. Even that picture I showed earlier is just like what you saw here. Her crying after seeing that poster was entirely justified. (plus, seeing her cry was really sad on its own because we’ve seen her mostly happy and never showed this kind of emotion before).

This episode sent me chills.

But...that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I loved it! I loved the scary, chilling atmosphere that happened almost throughout, the scenes of the processes going through the banal activities, the chant Marco gives to wake the imprisoned princesses--freeing them from their horrible states and bringing them back to normal, Princess Smooshy eating a bird after a forced singing activity, everything involving Miss Heinous and the guards, the call-backs, Star’s outfit, Marco in a dress and even hearing Snooki Head talking in her native accent. I miss Pony Head and seeing her again was just as joyous.

Oh, and the ending. Let’s just say that this new battle between Starco and Miss Heinous isn’t over.
And I’m excited...

This episode was awesome to watch and a perfect concept for the first full half-hour episode. It was everything I wanted to see about St. Olga’s Reform School, and then some. The writers and story-boarders really did a great job here, and I’m so glad for that.
This series continues to get better and better for me, and if I didn’t watch so soon, I’d regret it. Because the mix of dark and bright is so perfect and the action and comedy are amazingly balanced and used, like it is here (even if this particular episode was mostly dark than bright.).
Bravo, everyone! Bravo.

Favorite Lines:
“at 90%. More tea, please.” Pony Head
“Why are you saying that? You don’t even have pinkies!” -Star
“It’s not criminal to be an individual.” -Marco
“If your -- are on the table, you belong in a stable.” -Miss Heinous
“Annihilate. That;s the term I’ve been looking for!”- Miss Heinous

And that will do with this, the first Star vs. The Forces of Evil Review as just a review. I hope you all have enjoyed the article, and that this will only be temporary, as next week's review will be under the same unorthodox format you have known and loved (begrudgingly).
(Translation: Thanks for joining me here for the first ever just-review-review and see you next week when the next review is the same crap you've gotten used to since March.)
And since this episode ended with a party celebrating the return to normalcy for the imprisoned princesses, next week's "Mewnipendance Day" will feature Star celebrating the history of her home dimension with her Earth friends. You can tell where this leads. And in the opposite of things, Star sets off on her own mission to find...something she saw in a Paid Programming ad, but being Star, things get screwy. It's "The Banagic Incident"!

I shall see you next week for that, but for now, it is time to depart.
(Translation: see you in 7 days! For now I gotta do other things that seem arousing to me.)

I send my sincere thank you to the SVTFOE Wikia page for their contribution to this review.
(Translation: As always, what I said one line ago.)

So, until next time, thank you for joining me and, and enjoy you weekend. Taa-taa!
(aka I'm Andrew, saying "Reach for the Star, and Keep Looking Up!..at your TV screen.")

America's Got Talent X Weekly Review: Live Show & Results--Round 1: Finally...The LIVE SHOWS...Have COME BACK...to US!

It's back. The reason we America watch every summer is back. The reason we're proud of random unknown people showing the rest of the world we DO have actual talent somewhere. And the reason we can actually handle watching NBC for the next several weeks.
It's the Live Shows on America's Got Talent X!

The best acts of the season so far have made it to Radio City Music Hall in New York City to fight for the highest and biggest prize in the show, $1 Million and a Headline Show in Las Vegas. It's time for the big and better acts to show their stuff and prove to the nation why they deserve to stay.

Before I get to my critiques, I want to give a little mention to this:
Back in June, Howard announced on his legendary radio show that this season as an AGT judge, his fouth, will be his last. He cites a very busy schedule this as the major reason. Such a sad/happy thing.
Sad, because after this season, there will be no more of his actually good constructive and sensical criticism or his nice taste in good talent (Although an act based entirely on some guy getting hit in his nuts is really questionable). And
Good, because he deserves the rest and more time to his family and his show, so good for him for being a great part of the show's judging panel. now...

Are you ready? Because this Review is ready for you. Let's go!!

(By the way, if you see some videos scattered that look like they don't work, don't worry, they do. Trust me.)

Kicking off the show (with a bang) is Siro-A. The video mapping dance troupe murders their performances every time they're on screen, so imagine my excitement when I learn that they've gone first this week. So you know this week is starting off with a bang.

HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AWESOME!!!
I was curious and excited to see what these guys would do live, and they butchered it!! They didn’t miss a beat (well, there were some minor hiccups, but not all the way terrible), and they kept me on me the edge of my seat watching on in amazement. They blew me away again, and I definitely believe they will go to the finals. And I know they will.
--
Here’s a name you thought you wouldn’t see again--Alondra Santos.

I was very surprised to see her on the list of acts performing in the first Quarter-finals, because she got booted during the Judge Cuts. But I’m glad she returned. Because
Man, she knocked it out of the park! I loved everything about this performance--the fun, colorful atmosphere, the back-up dancers, the rap verse she spit out, and of course, Alondra’s performance and vocals. This 13-year-old girl had the pipes like . And she reminds me of a teenage version of Selena. She would’ve made Selena proud with this. I’m proud of her.
Usted hizo su todo, y estamos orgullosos de ti, cariƱo.
--
On the tank now, Vita Radionova. She’s the contortionist who blew everyone away with her double-jointed moves. In more ways than one. But here...well…

I felt it wasn’t as impressive the last time. It was hit-or-miss to me. A little more miss than hit. It felt like I was watching the same act again; same moves, same placements, same sexiness.
I understand that after Alondra and Siro-A, she can’t exactly reach up to the same amount of “wow-factor” they did, but she did her best and that was fine enough.
I did enjoy the song that played during. Oh, and that outfit--trust me when I say that I was more focused on that than her smokin-hot moves. So Sparkly.
--
Next up was Triple Threat. They are the goofy nerdy troi that everyone fell in love with during their auditions, and they finally made to the Live Shows. They performed a cover of “Say My Name” by Destiny’s Child. And...oh, God…

This was...Strange. For starters, this wasn’t a gender-flipped cover. It’s still about a woman trying to shake off her man about if he cheated on her. Here it sounds like the guy is asking HER if she is cheating on HIM. And it was really off.
Now to the singing, this was really terrible. I’ve heard their singing before--their harmonies were perfect. It gave them the charm that made them popular. But after this, I can’t go on as a fan anymore. It wasn’t good to me. But I had the feeling it’s not their fault; they are one of those acts who started out great because of how unique they were, but then the producers came in and changed them, and come the Live Shows, they’re a completely different act. I’ve seen this before.
They got buzzed by Howard, which was fine. But when they got buzzed by Mel and Howie, it was shocking. But I agree with them in that they chose the wrong song to start their place in the Live Shows with. I also agree with Heidi in that it did take a lot of guts and that it was fun to watch. If they do stay, they need to change their tune immediately, because they are talented and have perfect harmonies.
This was a step down.
--
After this...high school production, I guess...it’s The Gentlemen.
The dapper dancing bros from Fairfield made their Live Shows debut, and it was kinda awesome! But…

They were a little rough in their moves; I can definitely see the
the song they played, “Time of My Life” by Pitbull & Ne-Yo, was inappropriate. This is a little better than the Usher songs that were chosen before, but it’s still inappropriate. I mean, “I’ma get LOOOOOSSSEE tonight”? I’m sure that won’t be Kidz Bop-age perfect for them.
And Melanie mentions that there were some of the same moves that they performed in their auditions. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I enjoyed what I saw here.
Great effort, Gentlemen.
--
Piff the Magic Dragon. Need I say more? I mean, I wish I should. At least because of this performance...
In this crossover spoof of Game of Thrones and Deal or No Deal, Piff has four boxes above the stage floor, and enlists Howie to choose which box contains his magic dog, Mr. Piffles.

As the act continued, the stakes were raised as his assistant, his sister, destroyed the boxes in more disturbing ways.
Suddenly, I felt more sad than I wanted to be laughing my ass off. I was more scared for Mr. Piffles in the box, and bored and frustrated that there was none of his trademark snarky, subverted humor and his cool, awesome magic appeared in this performance. I expected more of the latter like in his previous performances, and I got nothing. This was just nothing. Nothing that I didn’t expect from him before now. I am actually disappointed in Piff; this was just sad.
--

I really needed some happiness; so I’m glad that Benton Blount came up next. With his cover of A Great Big World’s “Say Something”, he continues to amaze me with his deep, amazing vocals. The cover feels like something he created, and it shows, too. That was amazing
Also, there was no package for him. Which was odd.
--
After this pick-me-up was Craig and Micheline, who had more than a few pick-me-ups themselves.

He throws her around like a rag doll, and She climbs him like a jungle gym. And that was said in the nicest way possible. The physical contact was smokin’, and the sex appeal and sexual tension in-between was red-hot. I enjoyed this so much.
--
Next was Drew Lynch. This comedian, who suffers from severe stuttering, made America proud during his audition. But for me, here...

I didn’t find his performance, great...but not because of the stuttering (I’m not that much of an asshole). It’s because I didn't find some of his jokes that funny. couldn’t hear him. I tried getting close to the TV and turning it up louder, but I couldn't understand him, outside of his stammering.
--
Showproject took the stage to perform their famous acrobatics.

And I wasn’t as impressed with this performance as I was with their last. I believed it was a step down from that. All I saw was swings around the poles and climbs to the top and balancing themselves. Plus their timing was off.
That’s just basic as hell. I saw a lot more during their Judge Cuts audition, where they committed their all into their performance and impressed me a lot. This was nothing much to me.
But their bright pants were a plus to me.
--

Paul Zerdin just continues to be one of the best ventriloquists, not only this season, but any season, too. There was so much to love from this:
-His talking with his puppet Sam (which can be expected)
-Putting the puppet in his bag, and him still not moving his mouth while Sam talked
-Him walking away from Sam...and then Sam TALKS!!! AND MOVES!!!
(Did he make a deal with the Devil for this!) Crap on a cracker, that was just BRILLIANT!!!!
I--i mean--just--bffvbdjhcdnso;sddr=23--He needs to win this. He really does.
--
And finally, the last act of the Live Shows premiere, Samantha Johnson.
She is a singer with a beautiful, powerful voice. Seriously.
She performed “California Dreamin” by The Mamas and The Papas.

Oh my God, this was amazing. That voice is so bombastic, yet just heavenly. She owned the stage, she commanded the audience, and she deserved going to the Live Shows. Even more, she needs to go further than that--she needs to go to the Finals. She has to, because she’s one of the best singers I’ve ever seen on AGT. I watched all seasons and she has everything to make it so far.
She’s the next Bianca Ryan, Prince Poppycock, and Jackie Evancho.
Wow. She ended this show with a bigger bang.

Howie said it best: This was one of the best Live Shows I’ve ever watched. No--it was the best Live Show I’ve ever watched. Almost all the talent I’ve seen this week blew the roof off of Radio City Music Hall and left me wanting to vote as fast as I can. All of them gave it their all and I can really feel it; everyone has done their best, and it was worth watching, whether good or bad.

Best Performers: Siro-A, Paul Zerdin & Samantha Johnson
Favorite Act of the Week: the former two
Worst Performers: Triple Threat (definitely), Piff (sorry) & Showproject (same basic moves)

And now, time for the eliminations.
-I’ll be honest. I expected some of these acts to go. Because they deserve to go. They were absolutely astounding to watch in their own way.
-As for Piff, he deserves to go because I want him to showcase what brought him this far--his smart-ass comedy and his goofy-yet-clever magic. I was disappointed in him this time, but I’m happy in that he can continue to do what we all love about him next round.
-I thought Alondra would go home, because I thought other acts were more popular than she was, but thanks to the Judges Choice, she’s staying.
-Also, I was surprised that Samantha wasn’t going through just like the others that were chosen. I honestly thought she was a shoo-in. But fortunately, there were a chance to still be saved: The Dunkin’ Save. So I’m glad she’ll also be back for the next -Finals Round. She (along with Alondra) is so talented.

And now I want to bring back one segment that been long dormant. It takes a look at the most dapper looking host of the reality competition circuit: Nick, that I like to call...
Suit Up! with Nick:
On Tuesday, Nick wore a Dark Blue setup with an adorned Light Blue flannel pattern. This must be to celebrate the fact that AGT is back on the Radio City Music Hall stage, because he matches the lights and setup floor.
And on Wednesday, Nick stunted in a

Going Home This Week:
Vita Radionova
Triple Threat
The Gentlemen
Craig and Micheline
Showproject
-I’m absolutely cool with this result.
Vita, Gentlemen and Craig and Micheline are simply not million-dollar acts, while Triple Threat and Showproject sucked.

Going Through This Week:
@Siro_A_
@ImAlondraSantos
@thePiff - the Magic Dragon
@BentonBlount
@theDrewLynch
@PaulZerdin
@SamanthaTheBomb - Johnson
(follow these guys on Twitter. It’s well deserved.)
As for the rest, this is deserved. I’m proud for all the acts chosen to go to go.
This was a great first start to the last part of the season, and I really enjoyed all of it. Good job to everyone involved for a great first Live Show.

And that’s it for for the first Review of the America’s Got Talent Live Shows!
Thank you for joining me this week, and I’ll see you next Thursday at 9 for Round 2, where these next 12 acts will vie for our votes (which will now [and brilliantly] take place during the show):

Tune in Tuesday to watch them to fight for our right to use the app for just two hours in the week, and then check back here 50 hours later for my review. I know you want to see that, huh?
Anyway, see you next week! Goodnight!

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 4-That Was...The End (Darn)

Hello, everyone.
Welcome back to my Review of the Judge Cuts on America’s Got Talent X. And wouldn’t you know it, we’ve reached the end. During the last four weeks, we’ve reached all we’ve could to watch some of the best acts so far try again to potentially reach the Live Shows and vie for America's hearts, votes, and possibly wallets. It's the final week, so they have to end it with a bang. So the best of the best are spotlighted for the 7 spots to the Live Shows. But that not the only thing.

For this, the final week, the judges are joined by the most memorable and beloved judge. He’s been a part of AGT for the first 7 seasons, and has really left his mark ever since. He’s made controversial remarks and rulings, but his presence has been felt by fans the nation over.
It’s Piers Morgan.

I honestly thought that Howie’s prank on him this time was just foolish and childish, and makes him a damn Man Child. His pranks on Piers are seriously unnecessary and just stupid. Sure, they can be funny, but makes Howie look more like an asshole than Piers. He can say some mean things, but they’re constructive and true at best.

--

Our (final) first contestants are The Gentleman, two well-dressed, all-around handsome brothers from Fairfield, CA making their return to impress the crowd and judges again.

After their first audition, you’d think they’d step it up and still be this cute and charming..and you’d be right.

They killed it! Again!
I thought their synchronicity was a little loose and sloppy though, and but if they do get to the Live Shows, they have to tighten it up while keeping the personality intact.
Also, these guys must love Usher enough to have him play his songs during their performances; this was the second Usher song they’ve chosen for their act, which was inappropriate and repetitive. It did show off their personality, so that’s a plus out of a negative. But they need to change that too. Other than that, their personality was full of charm, charisma, high energy and a touch of goofy. All in all. it was a really fun and cool performance and I hope they go through.
-
Another thing, during the shot of the other auditionees while they’re dancing, one of them said that “We need to step it up”. I said “Really, this guy is THAT worried to step up his act believes to boys are upstaging him!?”. I understand that has to happen, but I found it funny that a grown man is thinking that.
--
Moving on, Derek Hughes is a magician from Los Angeles. (Geez, I just realized that there are a lot of magicians here.) He claims he’s gonna to blow the judges minds (Get in line.) with his talent of mental magic.

At first, (and then later) even when he asked Howie to think of a certain city, I knew where this was going. He’s gonna find the city using “telepathy”, which is reading someone’s mind and thinking the same thing later on.
Fortunately, I was shock/surprised/happy when he threw it away, changing my perception of him a bit. That is until he picked the paper back up and shown the city of Toronto. And that one about Gunther. Which was scribbled out to reveal Bob. And the Morbid “park.”

It was still kinda predictable, though. I can understand why Piers wasn’t enjoying it as much, because I felt the same way, too, at first. He’s funny (knows how to make people), and he know how to step away from the norm of magic. That’s pretty impressive.
--
In the tank now are two Duo acts that are in the same sub genre of acrobatics. You know things are getting interesting when both of their names have the word “Duo” in them.

Up first is Duo Vladimir. They are two brothers (with the same NAME!) who are acrobats.
They certainly impressed the judges and audience with their act during their first audition...

and here...

That was intense, it was scary to see the Vlad on top nearly fall, and it was breathtaking when they took out swords(?) to make the act more terrifying. There was one hiccup when Top Vlad nearly slipped from the tiny perch, but they kept their balance, thank goodness.
This was a damn great act and I’d love to see them take it up another notch if they move on.

Speaking of notches, the other Duo needed to do just that to catch up with the Vlad-stics.
They’re Duo Voltra. A couple--two people who partner in trapeze.

Since their first audition (they were a couple), when they broke up, but have continued on with their act.

This act for me is better by a “thread” than Vladimir. not only is it intense because there is no net and barely a mat to land on, but it’s also beautiful to watch because of the chemistry and passion these two exes have put into it (mind you, again, they’re not a couple anymore), so this was a great act.

Of the Duo’s I think could go on to the Lives (I wish both should go; both are incredible acts), I think Voltra should move on; they have the personality, passion, chemistry and sex appeal to make the competition fiercer and tougher...and even more hotter.
--
After a package of acts that just don’t have the talent or impression to keep up the second time to go through,

singer Alicia Michilli took the stage to perform The Jackson 5’s classic “Who’s Loving You”. And honestly, who not loving her at that moment? She has this hot, sweet, soulful voice that can move an audience on instant, and can impress anyone (even Piers). There were points where she couldn’t reach the high or strong parts of the song, but she still pulled it off. Greatly.
--
Next is Semeneya, a Salsa act from San Antonio.
You may remember them as a quadruple act, but during their audition, one of the members broke his leg. The judges were sympathetic enough to give the act another chance, and, with two members taking the ranks, they knocked it out of the park.
Now during their re-audition, they’re trying again as a trio, as Luis couldn’t recover in time to return. And they knocked it out again.

Not only out of the park, but also the entire town.
That was spicy hot, the moves were hot, but the spins and sexiness of it all were fire. And the sashes on the ladies outfits were a big turn-on for me. These guys are definitely one of the best dance acts I’ve seen this season so far.
--
Speaking of best, Aaron Smyth (pronounced Smeith) returned, and just like in his audition,

he did his all and left nothing back here.

He stepped it up, turned up the emotion and energy and left me wanting more. Meaning for him to go to the Lives and do it again. He was
--
Siro-A took the stage next for their act. And...well...holy shit, look at this.

The synchronicity and timing with the video was astounding. The video wall itself is colorful, goofy and sid-splitting in all the right ways. Watching the whole thing gave me goosebumps, because even though I’ve seen acts like this before, this one here was still kinda new to me.
This act was so brilliant and convincing, that it was quite impossible for me to decipher which were the real guys, and which were the CPUs. And the music added on to the fun of it all. It was like watching something made by Nintendo.
These guys right here are the next Kenichi Ebina. I’m just saying.
So no wonder Piers pressed the Golden Buzzer for them. They truly deserve it.
Just like they also deserved this post-GB interview on Access Hollywood Live.
-- Next is Gary Vider, a comedian making his due as a dog walker. His set is about his problems with money. It was really funny. His dull persona worked on me, and the subtle jokes he made were hilarious under that. He could go far from that. Howie said his comedy is subjective, and that makes sense, as not everyone will love it, but I did, so he works well for me. Good job for him. -- Then things got terrible really fast. Kayvon went on stage and sung “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive. I’ll tell you quickly--this guy and his vocals suck. After he gets buzzed by three of the judges (No telling what Piers would’ve done), Howie defends him. I was confused as to why he would do that. But then when he explained that he thought he was a humor act, he was shocked to learn that he wasn’t. I was too; this guy believes he’s a serious talent. (the dude is stupid to believe that catshit he calls his vocals is talent) And then things get even worse when he opens his mouth. He insults Mel and her singing career, causing the other judges, especially Piers, to strike back.
I’m so damn glad Piers came back this week, because this fucker deserves to put in his place, and to wake up from the little dream that is being delusional enough to think he can sing. Screw him.

And that’s it for my critiques for the last acts to have made it this far in the competition.
In my opinion this was better than the last group. I was enjoying most of the acts and I would’ve had an ulcer choosing seven of them to go the the Lives, so thank God I didn’t choose them. But I think the judges made the right decision in choosing the acts I would’ve wanted to go.
Let’s see which acts are going to Radio City Music Hall:
The Gentlemen
Derek Hughes
Duo Voltra
Alicia Minchilli
Gary Vider
Stevie Starr (an act that swallows and regurgitates random objects; I really didn’t like his act, but hey, I’m not on the panel), and
Siro-A (Golden Buzzer winner) (my favorite of them all)

This was a group of acts very deserving of going to the Live Shows, in my opinion. They all posses some real nice talent in their own ways and make the competition amazing.

I was saddened to see that Semeneya, Aaron Smyth and Alex Boye were eliminated. They also had talent and likeness toward them, enough to go through, but I truly understand why they weren’t chosen: Only seven spots. And they weren’t doing enough to get those spots. I wish them well in their future endeavors.

Well, folks, that’s it. The Judge Cuts are over. The judges and their guests have chosen their favorites and they will go to the Live Shows for America to decide the winner. Who will shine? Who will fall? And what color will Nick overuse in his suit? Find out this Tuesday when America’s Got Talent goes Live!
(Of course I’ve got my review, which will moving back to Thursday at 9pm. Because three days of waiting is too much now.)
See you then. And Goodnight!!

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 3-That Was...Weird

Welcome back to America’s Got Talent--the Judge Cuts. You know how this goes:
Same as the auditions, but during this stage, the judges are joined by a special guest joining them at the panel to help find the right returning acts to take to the Live Shows.
This time around, it’s Marlon Wayans, best known from TV shows like In Living Color, The Wayans Bros., and films like White Chicks, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the “A Haunted House” series and the first two “Scary Movie” films. He’s currently the host of the new series I Can Do That, also on NBC. *sigh*
Now that we’re re-aquainted, let’s start Part 3.

First up is musical group Triple Threat, one of the early favorites from the Auditions. This all-guy group wowed us with their amazing vocals and harmonies during their first performance.

and now, their second performance, which includes an surprising song choice.

Now, comes an interesting challenge: singing “Problem” by Ariana Grande. But they pulled it off awesomely. Their vocals were just as great this time, and they even pulled off Iggy Azalea! I really like these guys; they’re sweet, charming witty, and their origin story was funny, yet cool to see, as these guys meeting would make a great outcome.
--
Animation Crew took the stage next to perform what they do best: popping, locking and amaze. If you haven’t noticed, that is dancing.

Here their act is mimicking a band in a toy box to The Jackson 5’s classic “I’ll Be There”. And wow, that just blew me away! Their movements--exactly like those in a music box--brilliant. And the version of “I’ll Be There” as if it was played by one was a very cool touch, playing along with the original. These guys are probably my second favorite dance troupe on the season, after FeeLuminate no doubt.
--
Skipping some acts, we reach ventriloquist Paul Zerdin. Last time, he straight up blew the judges' minds with his dummy skills.

And this time, he brought a special guest along with him.

My God, this guy is hilarious. His content and humor are hilarious, his ventriloquism is shockingly brilliant, and the guy knows his stuff like he done this when he was in the womb. He is a million-dollar act, and he really deserved getting the Golden Buzzer by Wayans. I know he’s gonna do huge things in the Live Shows.
Make him another British act getting the Golden Buzzer and going straight to the Live Shows. And to make it another running gag, here’s his appearance on Access Hollywood Live. Just because.

--
Straight after him, is another act blowing the minds of everyone, Oz Perelman.

In his re-audition, he wants the How’s to let him check into his heads.

That was great, but I wasn’t very interested in his act. It pretty much the same thing as his last act. But I did love when he cutted up Oprah Winfrey for Howard. That was impressive.
--
Reaching past more acts, Mountain Faith Band are back to play us a good song again (or bluegrassy cover of a pop song).
During their last appearance, they covered OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” with great fun....

and now, they’re playing to “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness. (heh, a straight-up contrast between both bands).

They did an amazing job with the cover. I’ve never heard the song before, but I’ve enjoyed this cut of it. I can bet the original was really dark, considering it’s a HEAVY METAL song, but these guys make it like it’s their own, without ruining it for their fans.
I really like this band; they’re my absolute favorite music group on this show, and I think they’ll bring a bit more to the table when the Live Shows come around.
--
Next, Vita Radionova, contortionist extraordinaire.

Hot. damn.
That was sexy beyond belief, so much so I had to research the show’s rating. That was hot to watch, but I got a definite feeling that she’ll do some of the same if she goes to the Lives. Unless she mixes it up, it’ll be corny as crap.
The look on Marlon’s face (along with, well, every male face shown) was just hilarious.
--
Benton Blout is the final act of Part Three, and out of the gate, he just reaches near-Chris Daughtry levels of rock.

He adds a really nice rough bluesy, soul-ish sound to this cover, and I just really enjoyed listening. I like this guy; his voice is like a breath of fresh air, despite it sounding rough, harsh and sandy like the music in Kanye West’s “Yeezus”.
I like him.

And now, the choices whom will go on to the Live Shows.
(And yes, if you have noticed, there are less from the last two Parts, because all that's reviewed here are the ones going. I just got tired of watching on Hulu because it cuts off after pausing for a few minutes. It's frustrating; even when the other option is going on Wikipedia and seeing who goes and who doesn't.)
Triple Threat
Animation Crew
Paul Zerdin
Oz Pearlman
Mountain Faith Band
Vita Radionova
Benton Blout
--All of these acts are, in my opinion really good choices. And that's, more often than not, because other acts were really terrible. They did not deserve going through because of the Sophomore Slump. They either got less exciting or got even worse. So i'm glad for the judges to choose these choices. Some aren't spectacular, but they're better than fine here.

Anyway, this Judge Cuts segment is fluctuating. It started out great (although it was wildly expected), then it went downhill from there, and picked up a bit here. Suffice to say, it's gonna be a hard time getting excited for the last Week (or Part by me) of the Judge Cuts. Hopefully, I'll be happy enough. Join me soon for Part 4, the final Part, of the Judge Cuts.
See you then.

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 2-That Was...Still Expected

Hello, everyone.
The Judge Cuts on America’s Got Talent has heated up.
Last week, 20 acts have re-appeared and faced the judges (along with a special guest) to prove why they’re deserving of their place in the Live Shows. 13 have fallen, while 7 have risen the ranks to secure their spots. I honestly thought almost all of the choices made were very expected, and that the end was anticlimactic...but when Alondra Santos wasn’t chosen, I was shocked. Oh well. I’m glad all of these acts I really like are going through.

This week, it’s a different course.
20 more acts are making their marks one again; and again, only 7 acts will be going to Radio City Music Hall. I was even less than pleased with this group; even if the judges had a hard time getting rid of some real good acts, it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
Let’s see which acts will go to New York this time (that is, those we obviously know will be going).

But first, another round of the opening credits with the judges and shit.
This week, they are joined by Michael Buble, one of the most talented and incomparable talents and voices in music today. And host of his Christmas specials on NBC. Whichever is more relevant at the moment.

Now, let’s get started.

First up, magician Aiden Sinclair.
If you remember him, this guy previously had a really bad life as a con artist, and ended up in jail for his scams. During his time in the slammer, he picked up a book on magic and learned the ways of the profession. He has since gotten out a changed man and has made wiser moves in life to move away from his past, including appearing on AGT with an amazing audition. That was amazing.

But somehow, that couldn’t compare to this second audition he did.
Oh. My. God. This just blew everyone’s mind. I--I just can’t wrap my mind around this.
His talent is just spectacular. He’s going through. He’s definitely going through.
Another great start. Another bar set.
--
Of course it’s going to be hard for the other acts to be just as great.
But damn if they don’t try.

Shirley Claire is up first. This 87-year-old firecracker has been making us laugh, smile and feel any us should be her fifth husband since her audition. Man, can she sing!

Now, she’s back for another knockout. She’s still got it.

I love this woman! She’s witty, charming, charismatic and hot. She can make me her romantic partner if she wants; I can be down as a cougar’s mate.
--
Daniella Mass is a singer originally from Colombia now living in the US to chase her dreams.
She sang “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, and…

well, what can I say? This girl has the voice that can move mountains, open up skies and possibly breathe life into anything. I’d be pissed if she didn’t go--she deserves to.
--
Ira (and his mother) has returned with one goal in mind: impress, and one day settle down with, Melanie. But he now has another reason to continue on in the competition: Sing to everyone and make them happy.

I felt a little cringed for Mel. This guy’s--(I can’t believe I’m referring to this thing as a guy like I am a human)--his whole schtick is just singing his feelings about Mel B to her and everyone else, in front of her. That’s not very funny. That is...a little creepy. The dude (or the guy controlling “him” from behind) can sing, but this angle is getting really annoying at this point. And if he goes, I don’t think I’ll be a fan of this anymore.
--
Next up is Benjamin Yonnaton. He is a dancer with a painful obstacle in his life: he is legally blind. But that won’t stop him from living his dream.

This young man is inspiring. He wants to dance (and can dance) and won’t let his decreasing vision stop him. Which is great thing to see. His audition was beautiful to watch and had me emotional.

--
After a package of a few acts that were great, but might not make it through,
we are now treated to Uzeyer Novruzov, the guy who can

In this reprisal, Uzeyer is attempting to reach the top of a wobbly ladder and stand on it; no mat, no net, no safety. I wasn’t very impressed with this. It was great for him to climb the ladder and make it wobble to ass suspense, but when he stood on top for a few seconds, I was a bit disappointed. I mean, I was like “That’s it? Really?”--I wanted more than that, and this left me sad. I know there are people who’ll say “Come on, this is amazing; no one can do this like he can”
I know; it’s really hard to do, but if you’re going to fight for a spot to the Live Shows, it should be more exciting and extravagant that this. His audition was better. That was cool to see though.
--
Ryan Shaw. Aw, man. This dude has some golden pipes!

Seriously, it probably should be a crime if he doesn’t make it to the Live Shows. He’s that good His three GRAMMY NOMINATIONS are an impressive feat to have in a music career.
--
The Craig Lewis Band. Man, these guys are aMAZing!!
First the audition was tantalizing...

...and now their second act is just as fantastic.

Like Ryan Shaw, these brothers are so talented and have some of the best voices on this show this season. They have everything to make it far, and I think they can make it far. Which is why I was so glad that Michael pressed the Golden Buzzer for them. They so deserve it.
--
Speaking of deserving, DM Nation returned for their next turn. The all-girl dance troupe already impressed the judges and the crowd the last time (in two words: THAT TURN).

And now, here’s what their re- gives us.

Well, the title of the YT video said “Power and Precision”, and that’s what we’ve gotten. These girls still got the moves and timing down pat--right down to every inch of the beat of the three songs featured. I do pretty strongly feel that the Audition was better, but I still enjoyed what I gotten here.
--
Scott Heierman. My God, this man is hilarious.

His comedic skills under the guise of being a drag queen led him to be one of my favorites during auditions. I couldn’t wait to see him again during this round, hoping he wouldn’t disappoint…
Unfortunately, he did...but not for the reason you think.

He was so overwrought with emotion, that he forgot his lines and messes up his whole act. That is a terrible and painful thing to see; watching people lose their strength and determination to perform an act after so much practice and perfection, and with so much hype and excitement for you to continue what everyone loved you for. It’s that sad.
I felt very sorry for him to start this high, and then reach this fall from grace.. He really was one of my faves, and now it’s disappointing that he won’t go on to the Live Shows. Oh well.
Good luck to him wherever he goes, and hopefully he’ll come back this season and maybe knock it out of the park again.
--
And finally, the last act of Part 2, Selected of God Choir.

Here they perform a cover of Destiny’s Child classic “Survivor”. And already, out of the park, they KILLED it! Their vocals, harmonies and -- were just beautiful. And it was a perfect song for them to sing---just take out ex-boyfriend for something related to evil and you’ve got a perfect performance from a Gospel group. This group is really talented and I hope to hear from them again in the Live Shows.

---

Alighty, the acts have now given their shots in hopes of moving on to Radio City Music Hall. Let’s see who will actually go there.
Advancing to the Live Shows Are:
Daniella Mass
Ira
Benjamin Yonnaton
Uzeyer Novruzov
Craig Lewis Band
DMNation
Selected of God Choir

Those Advancing That I Like Are:
Daniella Mass
Craig Lewis Band
DMNation
Selected of God Choir

I expected myself to be shocked by these decisions; and boy, were my expectations exceeded.

--Ira over Aiden Sinclair? Freaking BLASPHEMY!! Ira is talented (is funny and can sing), but his continuing aspirations for Mel are a turn-off to me. Aiden’s a very good magician, and his acts left me speechless. If anything, he should’ve went through than him.
I mean...puppets!?! Really, judges!? Come ON!
--Another thing is this: another two acts had to go too: Shirley Claire, Ryan Shaw. It’s sad. But it’s understandable why. Some of these acts had to go no matter how great they are. You think it’s hard choosing which ones will go on, try being the judges and see how easy this is. But what makes not much sense is that out of the seven acts that did go through, only four of them I actually like. The rest are mediocre to me at best.
--I read some of the comments on the bottom of the episode’s Hulu page, and some people believe the reason Benjamin got through is because of his terrible sight issue--The judges let him go through because they had sympathy for him. That’s quite understandable, but, I find him a talented dancer, whether blind or not, and I find it annoying that people are continually referring to him as “the blind kid”, which pisses me off. How would you feel is someone refered to other auditionees as “the ex-con magician” (Aiden) or “sexy Colombian” (Daniella) or “the hot old bag” (Shirley) or
I can understand your opinions; It’s the fact that people are calling him “the blind kid” (and not his freakin’ name!) that’s driving me crazy. People, this is the internet! Stop typing in this dumb-ass term and refer to him by his name! It’s not that damn hard!
--

And now, my brief thoughts on Michael Buble as guest judge. He was pretty good. He really charming and had some one-lines that made me laugh (most notably during Uzeyer Novruzov’s re-audition), but he wasn’t as hilarious as NPH, so all is balanced out.

Well, that does it for this week. Another seven acts have made it to the Live Shows--making the number double to 14, and now the stage is set for another 20 acts to try to give it their all for a chance to advance to the Live Shows. Only another seven will be chosen. Who will it be? Check in again next week to find out, along with my critiques of the challengers’ performances as well.
Hopefully this next turn-out will be better. See you later.

AGTXReview: Judge Cuts--Part 1-That Was...Expected

It's finally here.
After 7 weeks of watching some of the best (and most horrible) talent the United States had to offer, the best (or those that fascinated the judges and pandered to the audience the most) were chosen to compete against each other on a bigger stage in front of the entire country, hoping their favorites go on to the highest stage of them all, the stage of the Live Shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Who will shine and rise? Who will crash and burn? Let's find out, as it's time for Part 1 of...
The Judge Cuts.

After the open, in which the producers suddenly think we’ve either forgotten the names of the judges, or that they’re continuing to hype them up like they star in the one show NBC actually bothers to promote. And if that wasn’t enough, during this stage of this season, for the first time, they’re joined by a special guest: an actor...who starring on another show on NBC. That’s it.
(I can’t hype up something that’s hyped up to the heavens)
This week, that actor is Neil Patrick Harris--best known for his starring roles in Doogie Howser MD and How I Met Your Mother. He will be making his big return to TV in the fall, hosting a variety show on the Peacock called Best Time Ever. (come on, I can think of a better name that fits more.)

Now that the over 4 minutes of eye-rolling judges filler (and even more eye-rolling product placement for Dunkin’ Donuts) is over, let’s get to what should be the real stars of the show: the acts.

These acts have worked their entire lives for the moment of reaching the Auditions stage, and getting the okay (or “Yes” in this case) to go this, the round where they must impress the judges a second time (this time, along with another studio audience) to get the round of “Yes's” that will officially take them to the Live Shows in New York City.
While few others have gotten better shots to make it there, these guys will have to give it everything they’ve got to get to that round.

After an actually hilarious bit with Neil pressing his Golden Buzzer,
The first returning act is the FreeLuminate Dance Company. Their audition was one of the best I’ve seen this season, so I didn’t hope much that they’d get the okay; I knew they’d go. But their act here was worthy of the ascension anyway. It is a geniusly beautiful recreation of the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, with a third member portraying the Devil, and a use of some of the Seven Deadly Sins. It was dark, intense and powerful, yet beautiful and breathtaking. Their dancing was amazing and the graphics and story were straight perfection. I just loved everything I saw, and immediately shows how FreeLuminate has become one of the best acts of this season. Well. Done.
--
Next up is Paul Ponce, the juggler who got into his career at the circus because of his parents, &
His parents Silvia Silva and Viktor (whom I’ll refer to from now on as Viktor Volt), the act involving shooting arrowing into balloons, have been circus performers since they were children, and has inspired their own child to take up circus performing.
They are a family who’ve came to AGT to compete...against each other?
The Juggling-and-Shooting Alliterative Same-namers have had really good auditions:

Paul’s audition juggling boomerang hats across the audition stage and judges desk was awesome,

while Sylvia and Viktor Volt’s act was mindblowingly awesome, with balloons being shot every time. But...
“Viktor, are you still alive?!”

"Of course, I'm still alive."
“Oh yeah, he’s still alive.”
so let’s see what Paul’s come with this time. Balancing a ball on his head.

Honestly, it wasn’t good. He was messing up more than once, including the start (if the ball hitting ground first and his actions around it were an indicator), he had so much trouble keeping balance, and he had to move around the stage to keep perfect. Even with nice brief shots of showmanship (like using a rope to have it single-dutch), it wasn’t impressive or awesome enough to get a good rating from the judges (or me, apparently).
It’s obvious he won’t be going through. What a letdown.
-
Meanwhile, Silvia and Viktor Volt are trying the shooting-the-balloons again, this time she's by herself, and the object is apples.

It was just as suspenseful and chilling, yet great as the last time.
--
After that are the Chapkis Dance Family. 28 members, 14 to 35 (call the eldest the Vanilla Ice)
I haven’t noticed them during Auditions; probably because they’re one of the many acts that got a small piece package during one of the episodes, so you can’t blame me for that.
They’re gonna dance… . That was great; the energy exhibited from all the members great and their moves (synchronized or chain reaction) were fantastic. I hope these guys--if they move on--do a lot more this, because I certainly get a kick out of dance groups with moves like that.
--
Skipping the “professional cuddler” (I don’t even know why she even made it past the auditions!),
along with the acts that got a short piece package waiting for them,
we go to Alondra Santos, the 13-year-old singer with the pipes of a grown young adult (seriously, kid can sing).

For this re-audition, she comes to the stage in a beautifully awesome billowing dress to sing a lovely Spanish ballad, "Cu-cu Ru Cu-cu Paloma".

Her voice is just wonderful to hear the second time, and her spirit, like Neil said, is “wise beyond your years”. She seems like a cinch to make it to the Live Shows.
--
Two magicians walk into a soundstage. One gets the title of the better one.
The first is Michael John.
After his first audition where he uses card trick as an excuse to kiss Mel,

he returns here, coming in with a coin and a can of soda, and leaving a nervous wreck who needs to rethink his dreams.

It was slow and painful to watch, and it was clear from the sound and tone of his voice at the start-- that he was nervous as crap. For a magician to make an impression, he has to keep the audience engaged and keep it going as quickly as possible. They can’t be patient...or don’t want to be. Seriously, NPH is a magician himself; I had a feeling he might’ve gotten bored at this too. It was a really good trick, but the timing was just really off. He needs to fix that if he goes to the Live Shows He needs a character, too.

Fortunately enough, the other magician has just that and a lot more.
He’s Piff the Magic Dragon.

He wowed everyone--and I mean everyone (me included)--during his audition. He surprised us with his magic, and kept us laughing with his tailor-made snarky, wacky, humor. Putting them together in his brand made him a true-blue hot commodity (ironically he’s green).

This time around, for his second turn-out, he brought a friend along for his audience: his magic dog, Mr. Piffles (he’s not a really a dragon; just a dog in a dragon costume).
He certainly raised the stakes even higher this time, and for good reason. He’s talented and funny. His magic skills are very impressive and his irreverent humor just keels me. You’d think he’d say something, but he’ll say something else, and that’s what makes him awesome. He is a perfect hybrid of magician, comedian and dragon--perfect recipe for one of the best acts right there.
So yeah...he’s going to Radio City Music Hall. Yep, Neil pressed his Golden Buzzer and let The Piffman go all the way to the RC. He deserves it.

Nick mentions in VO that Piff would be on Access Hollywood Live for his thoughts on his amazing act and even amazing look on his face when he learns he’d be going to the Live Shows. Here it is:
-- Remember Myq Kaplan? No? Me neither, but I’m regretting it now. Because he’s really funny. His content on romantic relationships--and why he sucks at them, going out on a date and philosophy just made me laugh very good. I like him and I hope he goes through. -- After a package of singers who sound much better for a cruise ship or a lounge, We meet 3 Shades of Blue. They performed “Fairly Local” by twenty one pilots. It was a great payoff. These guys remind me positively of Imagine Dragons: these guys are also a rock band with a very cool pop-rock band sound, and can make crowds go wild. I wish these guys luck. -- After some more acts we know aren’t going through, and Grand Master Qi Feilong (no comment), we get to the final act of Part 1 of the Judge Cuts, Samantha Johnson. Here, she sang Sam Smith’s recording of emotion, pain and loss “Lay Me Down”. And...that was just beautiful. Her vocals were perfectly entangled in true raw emotion and passion from every single line in the song. It’s like she’s a natural born singer from that moment. If Sam himself heard this, he would be very proud...just like I am. --- Okay, before we get to the results, let me state: I knew all of the acts going to the Live Shows would be going before Nick read the results. I figured from a mile away that at least some of them would go just from the strength of their auditions, coupled with the strength of their performances this week. This, coupled with the short sightings of other acts, and acts that didn’t do well the second time around, made my thoughts on the first week of The Cuts set in stone. Only one result truly shocked me, as I didn’t expect her to go home. And Now to the Results: FreeLuminate Dance Company Sylvia Sylvia & Viktor Volt Chapkis Dance Company Myq Kaplan 3 Shades of Blue Samantha Johnson Piff the Magic Dragon (Golden Buzzer choice) The Acts I Like are Going: All of them

I was shocked as hell when Alona was not going to the Lives, as, at first, I thought she was way better than Samantha Johnson. Don’t get me wrong, I thought Samantha was very talented as well, but I felt that Alona should go through because of her talent at a young age. I knew she wouldn’t make it to the end of competition, but I hope she would make it to the bigger stage.
(I hope to God that she’ll be chosen later in the competition as a Wild Card Pick, because her talent should not go unnoticed for so long.If not, then...oh well. I wish her luck in life.)
But after a second listen, I’m really glad Samantha is going, because her talent is a godsend to hear and a catalyst for her to be a perfect act to be seen during the Live Shows.

Other than that, from watching this week’s start to the Judges’ Cuts, the writing on the wall was clear for many of the acts the second they step on stage. It was obvious from the editing to the other acts’ performances that make this episode rather anti-climatic, no matter how many cuts to commercial there were or how many random song the show will play obnoxiously.
That doesn’t mean that this was bad. I enjoyed watching very much. The acts I liked, along with some I don’t follow, put out great showings, and make this season more enjoyable and exciting as it passes. This was a great start to this part of the season, and I hoped that it would go as great as we go along to the next Part.

Neil was a great temporary addition to the team; his humor was priceless, his charm was perfect the choice for his pressing the Golden Buzzer was amazing and can do great in almost anything (at least in TV and life).

And that will do it for the First Part of the Judge Cuts. 20 acts came in and seven walked out with a slight victory in going to the Live Shows. The choices the judges have made in getting there were brilliant and all of them are absolutely awesome in their talents. I can’t wait to see what these guys have coming at us during the Live Shows. especially FreeLuminate, Myk , Samantha and Piff. Wow, what a season this is going to be.

Thanks for tuning in, and I’ll see you soon for Part Two of America’s Got Talent--the Judge Cuts.
See you then.

Funday Friday: #45 -- Who You Gonna Call? - Cast of "Ghostbusters" Reboot Visit Boston Childrens' Hospital in Full Costume

You know, I just love when an actor visits a local childrens' hospital, making the young visitors happy to see him/her/them in their character costumes and, despite the illnesses holding them back personally, enjoying the best time in their lives.

Which is the case as the cast of the new reboot of Ghostbusters, Melissa McCarthy Kristen Wiig Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, visited the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. And they came in full costume! With

The reason for this?

Because of the their awareness of the upcoming film shooting nearby, the patients and nurses put up a sign that says "Who Ya Gonna Call" the hospital's windows. This attracted the actresses, who later came to the hospital to see the young patients. Dreams come true.

This was just beautiful to see and the smiles on the patients' faces is always something to make me (and you guys too) grin.

(photos provided by Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Very Special thanks to them for this lovely moment)

Funday Friday: #44--Hey Look! A Baby Elephant

Well, everyone. I wanna start this session of Funday Friday with an apology.

I want to apologize because I didn't post last week because I was in some sad personal times with my life.
During and after my vacation with my family, I've gotten into arguments with my family over simple stuff, I had to go to therapy because I wanted to become a better person on the inside, I had to cut my enrollment of going to college because of a monetary problem, and that outside of walking my little sister to work, I really didn't want to leave the house. So yeah, I was so much of a mess, that I spread to this blog; I have not released any post during the weeks they were supposed to be published, and for weeks on end I tried to power myself into posting this reviews with the promise of pleasing you guys. Hopefully, everything will turn out great, and everything will be back to normal.

Now to this post: it's a video about a baby elephant chasing baby birds. Super cute.

It's from YT channel Latest Wildlife Sightings, a website dedicated to looking at sightings of animals in their natural habitats, and it's lovely. Watching the baby elephant walking around his surroundings is super cute, and needed to take your mind off of the negative things in the world like death of Cecil the Lion, as said in the article on Zap2It.com (special thanks to them).

It'll sure take my mind off of some things.

Star vs. The Forces of Evil Review: Freeze Day / Royal Pain

Hey everyone. Star vs. The Review Time!!

This episode was yet another fun one for me. I enjoyed both parts, start to finish, every minute, every scene. A lot to like from both halfers, with some scenes being memorable for the entire series to come to a long way.
Let's start off this review with...

In it, Star accidentally freezes time with her wand and must convince Father Time to set things right.

The episode begins with Star getting ready for her day, and chooses a head-cap to match the mood, settling on a new headband: Cactuses. Marco rushes in and is frantically trying to get himself ready. Reason? At the start of the school day at 7:56, he meets up with Jackie Lynn for...a smile and a nod. He lays this out as Step 4 on a 23-Step plan.
(Gee, it’s like Marco is becoming a little more like a Latino version of Dipper. you know, circa early Season 1?)
Marc looks at the clock, and is about to be late for his daily meet cute, desperately asking Star for a solution: turning back time. She laughs this off, and jokingly says a spell with her Wand...which actually works, freezing time. Marco is delighted and can go to school to continue his nod session with Jackie. But...Star makes him realize that they can do whatever they want.
--This episode begins with a nice change-up: Star has a new hairband! As already mentioned, it’s a band with cactuses on top, a contrast to her usual band with demon horns.
Another great change-up here: Starco is looking a little different here.
While the messy and disorganized Star is actually ready for the day, the usually tidy and over-organized Marco isn’t, and is actually close to being late. To me, it’s kinda refreshing to see these nice subtle changes here.
--Also Continuity Not Alert!: the his and hers’ sink counter in the family bathroom as seen in “Quest Buy” is still the same, albeit Star’s side is a little more cleaner than before. A little

Starco run along Echo Creek and do just whatever--put mustaches on a baby, eat a girl’s birthday cake, switch head cozies with Ludo, whatever. Then at school, after relishing on their fun, Marco sees Jackie Lynn and gets into position before asking Star turn the Earth back on. Star tries a reversal spell...but it doesn’t work. Freaking out (well, mostly Marco), they go home to fix this week’s mess.
--Ludo has hair. Cool.
--At the top of this scene we’re treated with a still of Ferguson (and his tummy friend) getting smacked by a girl at the start of school. This is a call back to this happening the first time in “Match Maker”. It was funny then, and it’s funny now. More funnier when frozen in time.

At the DFH, Star opens her Magic Book, and finds a spell on how to turn time forward, which is going to a dimension called The Plains of Time and turning the Wheel of Progress. Starco arrive at the Plains and try to turn the Wheel. Marco’s plans...

...do not work. Star’s plan doesn’t work either, but this attracts Father Time. He tells them that he works the Wheel by walking on it like a hamster wheel (yep, Marco was right). but because time froze thanks to them, he can’t do that anymore. Starco try to stop him and convince him to turn time forward, but he’s too busy marveling at the best new things in his life...like twig, and a bush, and what he doesn’t know is a duck. They then have to chase him across the dimension.
--Okay, there shouldn’t be so much to be said about Father Time. But I will say this: He is HILARIOUS
--

(Cat with Human Face: GO AWAAAAYY.
Me: What the f***?)
Yeah...I would never go to the dimension with cats with human faces, either.
*shiver*
--Heh heh, Father Time is goofy and kooky and exuberant and funny. I like it.
--That thing he’s enjoying is mud. This is side-splitting
--From Marco’s line “...and everyone we know will freeze forever!”, this reminded me of an episode of The Twilight Zone called “The Stopwatch”, in which a guy buys a mysterious watch from a creepy drunk guy at a bar, and exploits it heavily, upon realization that the watch can…you guessed it, stop time. But the unfortunate climax comes in when he drops the watch during a robbery at a bank and freaks out, that he’s now stuck in a world that is frozen in time forever.
Fortunately, this doesn’t happen here...yet. (Or it does; you don’t know that.) But from that line, this episode perfectly captures the same situation as “The Stopwatch” did, but (slightly) less scary, and much more cheerful.
--Geddit?? The slick-fast turtle? The slowed-down? The Tortoise and the Hare??
What a classic.
--I hate the term “YOLO”, but the way he said it made me laugh.

--Since this has happened in between scenes, I will state that this here

is super cute.
This here

is just lovely.
And this here

is my new wallpaper for the next month.

“Now a word.”
Okay...Old Baby Marco.

Although they don’t catch up to Father Time at all, Starco instead finds a place on the Plains that records all of the universe’s memories and reveals any memories of anyone that comes in contact with this eye that descends from the ceiling, which it does with the two.

Star’s memories include her childhood in Mewni, which is her still getting reckless (even as a baby) and into trouble with Princess Pony Head, while Marc’s memories include smiling and nodding at Jackie. (Seriously, he’s been liking this girl since Kindergarten, and has tried to ask her out since, but has still only nodded with her). After reacting to their histories accordingly, they finally find Father Time marvelling at a doorstopper. The eye then shines on him, which reveals him working the Time Wheel since the start. But it also reveals that he’s really sad from doing the exact same thing for so, so, so long (which is really sad to see). So, feeling extremely guilty, Starco decide to let him have his long, long awaited free-time, while also keeping time alive...by using hamster to turn the wheel. (At first, you’d think the obvious, but actually the hamsters are used like horses, rolling the wheel like a stagecoach.) Father Time thanks Starco for giving him some much-needed freedom while also turning the wheel again, and also tells them not to do it again, as it’s fragile. (“You don’t wanna break it, you know what I mean?”)
But they realize that since time has started again, they’re about to be late for school; they dash back for Earth.

Time has finally turned again.

--Trust me when I say that I felt nearly heartbroken for Father Time when watching him going what he does for a living (and I do mean a living) and then feeling sad. You’d definitely feel that way too. And that explains a lot about his joy from finally waking free from the Wheel of Progress and enjoying his life without a care.

Back at ECA, Marco leans by his locker waiting for Jackie Lynn. They nod. But then Marc realizes that just nodding would get their relationship on higher ground. So he finally takes the next step by saying “Hey” to her. And to his surprise/relief, Jackie says “Hey” back. (Aww.) Marco breathes a sigh (or gasp) of relief and tells Star that if you have the time to do whatever’s important, never waste it. Marco is fiiinnaallyy geeeeetttttiiiiinnnnngggg sooooooommmmeeeeewwwhhhheeerree.
The episode ends with Father Time going back to his freedom, enjoying it with his big fuzzy hamster friends.

Wow. This was a very good episode.
We get to see a little of both Star’s and Marco’s childhoods (which was cool), a hilarious take on Father Time (played to perfection by comedian Jim Gaffigan), and nothing very strong going on, but I didn’t mind because I really enjoyed the goofy, sweet nature going on, and that it’s nice to lock out with a good fun story like this. Everything was awesome and engaging from start to finish, and nothing was boring or unexciting. Also, we get to see Star change her hairband for this episode, which was nice little temporary change.
I really like this episode. It’s really, really good.

Just like I really liked this episode…

In it, Star is delighted when her dad shows up for an unexpected visit, but he soon wears out his welcome.

This episode begins at the Diaz Family Home, where Marco wakes up (early, this time) to find the Home turned into a water slide. Although he enjoys the ride, he asks Star at the end to let him know about thing like this, as he hates the feeling of his socks getting wet.
Star’s father. King Butterfly, makes his appearance from Mewni, startling her and causing her to quickly turn back the house to normal. She then greets her dad, who informs her that Queen Butterfly, her mother, has kicked him out of their castle on Mewni for being a complete slob. After meeting the Laser Puppies, he reminds her that reckless use of her powers in the sight of the Queen would send her to St. Olga’s; but since she's not here, he cool with it.
Star gives the King a tour of the DFH, concluding it with a look of her Expansion Pack Bedroom and a meet-and-greet with the creatures who inhabit it.
(”I’m Kevin. I’m new here.” -Kevin
“Hi, Kevin.” -Me)
She also shows him the bathroom, where he gets fascinated with, of all things, the toilet, stuffing it and taking delight of the objects inside being swallowed down. Like a pig.
--King Butterfly geeking out over the toilet may be one of the best and funniest things ever. Okay, not really, but it’s getting up there.
--I’m curious: does Mewni have indoor plumbing like most of Earth does? That fascinates me.
--Oh, and that pig in the can is probably the pig as shown in "Brittney's Party".

Later on, Father and Daughter visit a mini-golf course, where he goes crazy with the sights and destroys it, sending other visitors running, and he and Star bolting as if nothing happened.
--No, I was wrong, King Butterfly destroying a kiddie golf course like it is an enemy war field is one of the funniest.

Later that night, Star wakes up (thanks to a pair of her dad’s undies) to find her father in a gross hill of clothes fighting her new bedroom friend Kevin, and making his daughter's room a pigsty. This keeps Star up all night, and makes her livid. She complains about it to Marco (who finds some familiarity in this) and gets an even ruder awakening: King Butterfly tells her that instead of ending his temporary residency at the Diaz Family Home, he’ll be be staying with her and the Diazes permanently, making him the second Butterfly to move in (although it’s going to end as soon as this episode ends, trust me). He also mentions a party later, where kings of other dimensions will join in to make Star’s lividness even deeper. Gonna be fun, huh?
Star has had enough and finally wants her dad to leave.
--Remember what Star said earlier, missing Marco’s point about how both her dad and herself being an inconsiderate prick; saying that he’s being that way to Queen Butterfly as well? Well, if you watched the episode through, you’ll realize that she’s just as right as Marco.

The party has begun, and all the Kings in the lands are having the times of their lives. He and King Pony Head are talking shop, before getting annoyed that Helios, a talking sun, appears to kill the party vibe.
Star apologizes to Marco for all of her previous partying way and recklessness, causing the times she ends up “soaking his socks”. Marc accepts and asks that, next time, she lets him know about it. Another king shows up Helios, and starts to destroy the party--first metaphorically by killing the vibe and eating the snacks, and then literally by sucking in the rest of Earth! Star puts a stop to this by watering down the party--literally--watering Helios and ending the party with all lives saved. Apparently, though, all the Kings didn’t find the amazing save okay and leave the ruined house party in a royally bummed mood. The King looks around the house and realizes what he’s done. He apologizes to Star for his horrible actions, and promises to be a better, cleaner person in compliance with Queen Butterfly upon his returning to their kingdom. with some servants coming by to clean up the house.
Star promises to give Marco a heads-up the next time she transforms the house, but Marc says a occasional surprise is a good thing, like the one in which he pushes her into the water. The episode ends with the two having fun in the water on the backs of dolphins.

This episode was just as fun to watch as "Freeze Day", and has a nice little message in learning someone being like you (in this case, inconsiderate) can make you realize that being that person is a bad thing. And although Star doesn't get the point immediately, she does learn it later on, and that refreshing to watch. Seeing Star's father again as enjoyable, as was him also getting a lessen in being inconsiderate. It's funny to see a grown man being getting told off for making his own daughter's second home a pigsty, but it was deserved.

Also, looking at the happy cheerful friends she has in her room, and her past as a princess on Mewni, it had me thinking something: When Star still lived on Mewni, as part of the royal family, she was a bad, misbehaving girl. But then when she begins her new life on Earth, her personality changed. She's more girly, cheerful a little more responsible and more willing to accept her faults and fix what she broke, changing her overall character little by little. And I mean "little by little" because she still needs a lot to learn to be more responsible with her powers.

Well, thanks for joining me again for this Review...and I'll see you next week. Because...

you've heard the stories...
you've heard the screams...
you've heard the terror...
but you've never seen it from the inside.

Next week, the time has finally come, as we finally take a look inside..."St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses".

I'm Andrew, saying "Reach for the Star, and Keep Looking Up!...at your TV screen".
