Stephen Colbert is the Coolest & Sweetest Guy EVER.
Why? He announced that he would fund every grant request by teachers of the schools of his home state of South Carolina. His project involves grants requested by South Carolina public school teachers have placed on crowd-funding website DonorsChoose.org. This project was spearheaded by giving the set and desk from his iconic Comedy Central show The Colbert Report up during an auction. The bundle sold more than $800,000, all of which will go to the 1,000 requests from 375 South Carolina public schools on the site. Colbert partnered with The Morgridge Family Foundation's Share Fair Nation and ScanSource to help fund the grants, which he revealed at a New York event.
This was such a beautiful and prosperous gesture. He deserves all the praise he receives. Teachers these days need all the help they could get, as school supplies are expensive and paychecks are hard to keep steady. Plus, they spend their own money for the supplies, which run out like hotcakes. It's very important for schoolteachers to have all they need to last more than just half a school year, and they now have the funding, as the man formerly known as Stephen Col-BEAR came to their rescue. And it is wonderful to see him giving back to his native homeland in a huge way.
