Well, call this embarrassing irony.
If you didn't watch The Price is Right the other day, this is one of those moments where you wish you did. For better or worse.
On the show, a contestant named Danielle Perez got to Bidders Row and correctly guessed the right price of a prize to appear on stage with host Drew Carey. (Ms. Perez is in wheelchair, and has been since 2004, where she lost the use of her legs in a car accident.) The game she's playing is 1 Right Price, but the prizes she's playing for are so many levels of wrong: a treadmill and a sauna. There is so much we wish could go better from there.
(Also, you may not notice it, but models are hiding looks of shock, sadness and embarrassment behind their crooked, plastic smiles.)
Now, listen to this.
Usually when the show begins taping, prizes and games are planned beforehand, before contestants are even seated and chosen. Surely this is an embarrassing moment for the ages, but it's not their fault. They didn't know a paraplegic contestant would be chosen for the game with the prize built for someone who can walk. Another thing: Why are we all talking about just the treadmill?!? Should we also discuss the sauna too?? How can a paraplegic get into a sauna? Again, the producers didn't know, so it's not their fault.
Fortunately, there is a good silver lining out of this: Danielle held it in like a good trooper, as she is a comedian, and used her sense of humor to keep the segment from being a sad display of humiliation and disgust.
Here is what she had to say about the reactions of the producers while being on the show:
"I kept thinking that it was a really big joke," she said, laughing, "But there was no irony in their cheers or applause." "Everyone at CBS seemed genuinely excited for me that I won."
She then tweeted about her winning the prizes

Good for her!
I'm just glad she got to win her prizes and to have a wonderful time on The Price is Right... and not make this look like a scandal.
